If you are all like me, you probably have started collecting small balls of left-over yarn. Since I'm still LEARNING to both knit and crochet, I sure would appreciate what any of you might want to toss...or just not look at anymore...ROFL In crocheting I'm finding these small balls are useful in learning the different types of stitches.... So PM me for address if you have any to toss my way; and I'll be glad to cover postage.

That's a good idea. I know when people at church find out I crochet and knit, they occasionally will bring big bags of yarn to me. Letting people know means you could receive some pretty great gifts of yarn stashes that no one knows what to do with. Are you particular about the weight of the yarn - sport vs. baby yarn, etc?

Thanks for the encouragement Mzgarden. I'm not at all particular about the yarn. I'm using anything to learn on...

motdaugrnds, please PM me your address. I took a hard look at my stash. It truly is bits and odds, but if you can use it - hooray!

Will do Mzgarden. Thank you
To any of you sending yarn my way: If you'ld like something created out of what you send, I'ld be glad to make it. Just know I will be using what I'm learning of both knitting and crocheting stitches to create it out of bits and pieces of yarn received; so it may end up looking a bit ....ummmm odd?? But I'll get it done and send it to you!

Hello everyone. Wanted to let you know I've already received a couple of boxes of yarn. It was exciting opening those and finding bits and pieces of various colors and textures...felt like a child opening Christmas packages. ROFL
Am in the process of sorting it all out, putting textures together as well as matching colors. Even this process is loads of fun and perks up my days. I'm so grateful to all of you.
Never worked with some types and am real anxious to discover what can be done with it. Do know I will need to get myself a different size crochet hook as only one I have is a 5.5 mm and thinking some of these thin strands will require one a bit smaller. I know Wal-Marts has some; so will look at those next month when I go into town again.....GOLLY THIS IS SUCH FUN!

Hello everyone. Just received a package of yarn and found it had a multicolor in it that fit so well with the darker color I found in one of those first two boxes. (Cannot remember who sent what as I excitedly mixed all yarns together so as to see what would go with what and what was similar in color and texture. Such fun! I'm so grateful for the kindness and generocity you have all shown me.) Want you all to know I've already completed one item (small baby blanket) and have started another (a throw 6'x 4'). I started another thread to show off what I've done with what you have all sent me. It is at homesteadingfamilies.proboards.com/thread/10306/learning-crochet-projects Am learning much about "crocheting" and the many wonderful stitches. Am concentrating mostly on the basic stitches; but even those can create lovely items. (Have 3 local nursing homes, a homeless shelter and an abuse shelter here that are getting all I make. I plan on wrapping each with see-thru paper and delivering them just prior to Christmas so the administration can tell what might be more acceptable to a man or a woman color-wise.) Living alone as I do and the holidays being quite lonely, words are inadequate to let you all know how much I appreciate you...

Thought you all might enjoy knowing what stitches I've learned while working with the various yarns you've sent. The basic stitches can even be modified... Single crochet Half double crochet double crochet triple crochet granny square (3 DC together) popcorn stitch (makes beautiful flower pedals) basket weave (going in and around DC stitches) Have also discovered many ways to join granny squares and just now found some "ornamental" designs using various stitches. Even discovered how to "slant" a design by starting with SC and graduating up to a TC Also discovered by using 3-4 strands of the extra thin yarn, I can create a more solid project...like the "throw" showing in that URL above. Am wondering what the beautiful "designs" can be used for though and have no idea how to place them into a project...so much to learn yet it is all so much fun.

I stopped buying yarn, at least for a while. I make mention that I see partial skeins at the charity stores and yard sales for not much. Maybe you will, too. Do be little cautious with scavenged yarn, though. Nobody here would send you dirty or buggy yarn on purpose, but it doesn't take much for moths to get at anything with wool content.

Use Less, Thank you for the information. I've actually looked at the various charity stores and they never have yarn. The yarn I've received from the wonderful people in here has all been very clean.
