How much are feeder pigs in your area?
I was buying weaners in the spring and butchering in the fall. I haven't been able to buy any yet this year. I can't believe the price of them. Last year was paying an average of $40 for 12-20 pound weaners, this year they are running $65-$75+. So, I'm still going to try to get a couple, then I'm going to get a couple gilts to raise up and breed.

A very cold February killed a lot of newborn livestock this year and caused prices to go up. We lost four entire litters and half of two other litters. We had to return deposits, everything had deposits. Luckily we had a couple gilts farrow three weeks later. I still get calls and people willing to take piglets born in June as well. If its weaned, there is a buyer ready and waiting. Personally, I think we are just now finally getting a reasonable price for weaners and feeders.

In our area they are also selling for about $125.00 and like Redfish shared if they are 4-H pigs, they are significantly more.

I just paid 110 for a just weaning gilt. I got 3. I will breed them all and eat the bad mom. Took us 3 months to find these. I had to drive 2 hrs one way to get them too.

I bought 4 gilts in January. Two for 100 each, the others 60 each. $80 - $150 seems to be the going rate here in ny.

They are outrageous here too. $100 - $200 for a weaner. We used to sell ours for $35 when we raised them in Kansas.

Prices are starting to come down a bit. I picked up three yorks yesterday. They are about 35-40 pounds or so. Got them for $55 each. I would rather have hamps or berks, but yorks produce sausage, ham, and bacon so they will work.
