Alright cow people, my cow is having clearish amber discharge, she's due mid April. If this was a goat, she'd be kidding in a few hours. Is my cow likely to go soon or did I just spend two 2 hours chipping away a foot of ice to open a gate to where I want her to calve for nothing?
This isn't our first go around, but normally the pastures are clear and she does her thing. We still have a of of snow on the ground.

We'll be thinking of you but I have nothing to help, no knowledge here on cows.

I just now saw this thread... Sure wish I had something to contribute as well feather ... Depending on what @redfish tells us next - I could get on the horn and ask our dairy farmer friend... ~Mari ETA - I just noticed this thread is under the Equine heading - don't know if that is impeding responses?

There are probably quite a few people that know cows.....but I could only think of Willow, so I PM'ed her asking her to come over here, if she had a moment.

She's still preggers this morning. I went out and brushed her a bit and looked her over. She's not really getting much of an udder yet and the discharge was dry this morning so I'm guessing things are not imminent.
Or she was in heat. Hopefully not! She sure looks pregnant, like a large black whale waddling around the pasture.
I'll just keep watching her til either something happens or the snow finally melts off.

Just got home from work and found this post! It's not unusual for cows to have a discharge late in pregnancy. It's always worrisome, of course, because you wonder if they're in heat?! Usually it's a clear discharge, though, so "amber" worries me a bit. I'd say keep a close eye on her, but don't panic until/unless she looks distressed.
