Today is the day we will lose our big beautiful blonde wether. The vet and we have exhausted all options for getting him back up on his feet after taking a bad shoulder injury. 9 months of vet visits, shots, meds, supplements, rest, ice and everything anyone could think of has to come to an end today when he couldn't make it up on his feet to come out of his shelter this morning. He was one of our first, a bottle baby and my summer napping buddy. He would lay in the field and let me rest with my head on him and we'd snooze. It needs to happen for him, but I am overwhelmed with my sadness.

Today is the day we will lose our big beautiful blonde wether. I'm just so sorry at your news. He was such a lovely looking boy. You 'know' when it's time, but it sure never makes things any easier. Thinking of you and sharing your sadness.

I'm so sorry! It just hurts so much to let them go, even though we know it is best for them. He was a beautiful boy and I hope your memories bring you comfort during this trying time.

Tallpines,@redfish, Woodpecker,@kiwifarmgal, countrymom22, Thank you all. It means so much to be able to share this with people who 'get it.' Life marches onward and we are happy with our memories and pictures.

((hugs)) I know this will hurt for quite awhile as I had a herd buck I called Roman who was with me just as your beautiful wether is to you. Memories will often come up and bring both joy and pain. The animals we learn to love just don't stay around as long as we would like. Do you have a burial place for him that you can visit? (I do and it helps.)

Thanks again. Our herd queen is apparently grieving the loss as well. She wanders and yells. We had to open the barn to let her in to look in all the stalls. I do pretty good until I go out and hear her calling. Time will take off the edge, keeping busy keeps me from dwelling on it. It's been a rough 8 months- losing our buck in October to a terrible accident and now Winston. Not sure if I could take any more loss at this point. We get a new buckling and his brother/wether in June. Hopefully this will restart the cycle and give us something positive to look forward to. Feeling maudlin today but grateful for the kind words and support.

Feeling maudlin today but grateful for the kind words and support. I think nearly all of us on the forum that have, or have had, special animals know what you're feeling. It's just the pits, and sometimes even thinking about the funny, happy times with that animal doesn't help until the pain starts to lift. There's just this big gap and the whole 'family' is affected by it. Hoping you have a lovely sunny day to cheer you, flowers coming up to remind you that even in the darkest times life renews itself, and that you know how much we care that you're hurting. And that June isn't far away.

It has been many years since we lost our first registered doe. I still remember. Goats become a very close knit family.

I'm so sorry mzgarden, such a sad loss for you all. I hope your herd queen will find rest and will settle back in. It is hard to watch them grieve.

mzgarden, So sorry, hugs to you and hope the future brings another buck/wether that won't take the place of your last buck and wether, but will fill both your hearts in happiness...

mzgarden, So very sorry to hear about your boy, it's always hard to lose any of them, but especially those 'special' ones. Hugs & prayers to you.
