"Florence May Be One of the Top-10 Most Expensive U.S. Hurricanes" This is a Bloomberg News headline published September 11, 2018. www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-11/florence-may-enter-top-10-most-expensive-u-s-hurricancesTo give some perspective Harvey and Katrina are top dogs coming in at $125 billion a piece. Coming in at number 10 is Rita a Category 5 2005 hurricane that did $18.5 billion in damage. Not only is inflation a factor, but each year there is more construction in coastal areas and that construction increases in expense almost yearly. Meaning that if Rita came ashore in 2018 instead of 2005 it would be much more expensive.

Florence may, or may not, be the most expensive Category 1 hurricane.

Whether it turns out to be one of the most expensive or not, it is certainly causing a lot of destruction!
