Quilts fascinate me. What has been your fav quilt to make? Pics if possible.

I am working on my first one, a log cabin quilt in browns, tans, creams and whites. I am fascinated by them as well and have already begun planning the second and third quilts.

My dilemma is whether to add a border or to run the blocks all the way to the binding...decisions, decisions, decisions...

It surely can, and I already suffer from "analysis paralysis", so I am asking a trusted friend who is an experienced quilt maker over to help me decide.

I always think a border looks nice. Show us some pictures when you are done.

Will do, Melissa! I have it all spread out on the floor in the basement on top of an old quilt and I keep rearranging the blocks. I fiddle. I am a fiddler.

Melissa , would you use a single color band as a border or three different prints for a three level border? I am stuck.

I like the solid next to the blocks then pick two prints that match for the outer border. I would not put a print next to the blocks.

Most quilts need a border. Log Cabin does not. However, a border is a nice way to make the quit larger. If using a border, I would make sure the blocks cover the mattress top. If they don't, a small border, just wide enough to frame the mattress would look nice (solid) then the next border for the drop.
With a log cabin, it can look cool to have your borders march around the top in imitation of the blocks. You know, in different colors and so the corners are stepped.

While I am at it (and I have discovered that I can upload my pics from Pinterest...) Here is my log cabin quilt. It is king size and I did not do borders.

That is beautiful I personally don't like borders on log cabins....so I just make lots of blocks.

Farmchix, those house quilts really rock. My old quilting guild made a house block one time. Everybody's looked different. Great!

My favorite block is the shoo fly. First quilt I ever made was with that block. I like the log cabin also. I've done 2 of those. One was bright scrappy blocks with a skinny red border and a wider yellow on the outside of the red one. The last one I made was black and white scrappy. Turned out beautiful! I'll try to get pics of them.
