Just got home from my fave pub out for a couple mugs o' Christmas cheer.... and all I did while I was there was stare out the window wondering why I was (and still am) feeling so melancholy....
Christmas has always been tough for me in years past but it's been a long time since I felt like this, and this is even worse than before..
Then I realized what it was... in about an hour from now a friend is coming over to take my two girls home and add to his flock. The RV place I'm moving into won't let me bring them and it's likely I'll never have chickens again... I can't have them where I'm going, and when I retire to an RV park on the coast it's very unlikely I can have them at that time either.
I love raising chickens... some people like cats, some like dogs.... I love having chickens... and after a 12 year run (with a 2 year boondoggle known as 'ducks') I've always had chickens...
This make me sad and depressed...
BUT, I know they are going to good home, and it's been a great ride...
Bye girls - you'll be missed....

Hey dude, I totally feel for ya! Don't know how much you know about me but I am very close to my chickens and there are many I just treasure... Both here and many departed... Sorry you had to do this... ~Mari

BrewDaddy, I hope in a way it makes it just a little easier knowing that they are going to a good home versus the alternative... Perhaps someday in the future you will have them once again... I have been reading your other posts as far as traveling / trailer and whatnot and I do so wish you the very best!! I look forward to hearing what lies ahead for you! ~Mari

BrewDaddy, oh man, that made me tear up. I hate the idea of someone having to give up their animals, even when they go to a good new home. I'm truly sorry, and I think you'll find more people here 'get it' than not. I hope your path has chickens again in the future some how.

That made me so sad for you. I am praying for you to look at the good memories and console yourself with those, and maybe, just maybe, someday down the road you will be able to have another little chicken in your life:-)

BrewDaddy,I'm so sorry, I know how that feels. Years ago we had 4 chickens we raised from chicks so they were very friendly and sweet. One used to always get out of the yard and go down to visit with the neighbors LOL. We lost 3 to a neighbors dog that got into their pen, The last one I had to give away as the was no way she would make it through the winter alone. She went to a good home though and for me that eased the pain. I hope you find comfort knowing your girls are somewhere safe.

Hey, I even have a chicken in a pen in the garage!! I carry her out and inside when the weather is good,in winter, she has a heat lamp although the garage is insulated. She expects a special breakfast each morning, Rest of the flock tries to kill her because she,s crippled. I never expected to get attached to chickens, so understand completely!!
