I do not spray anything on the trees.... We have had so much rain this year, extra watering has not been needed, but when it's not raining, I water every / every other day to keep them from drying out.

My first 3 types of dried beans. A few years ago, I won a seed giveaway on HomesteadingToday. I am a horrible person, because I cannot remember the mans name, but seems like it started with a D? Anyway he live in PA (pretty sure) and sent me 20 of each bean. This year is a seed year, so that I can grow a crapton of beans next year.

Anyway he live in PA (pretty sure) and sent me 20 of each bean. This year is a seed year, so that I can grow a crapton of beans next year. Those are just beautiful! Beautiful. I love the diversity.
So you are looking to grow a crapton of them. I can understand that completely.
DH and I are struggling with beans. We planted soybeans, chickpeas, and green beans. He has planted them (of beans) a total of 10 times. Every time we plant, a certain someone eats off the top of the plants.
Last night was no exception. I asked him to take pictures of the two leaved plants, he did. This morning we wake up and the tops are all eaten off. He went and got more seeds today and planted gr. beans again today. Seriously, this is ridiculous. It's either rabbits or fawns or deer.
It has gotten to be comical. I told DS about it and he said, 'well, what is he going to do about it?' So DH walks in and DS asks him. DH says he is going to sit out there tonight and wait for the perpetrator. DS, is a riot, he says, 'are you going to rassle it?'...... I think not.

Feather: I'd be FULL-ON Elmer Fudd if I had to plant beans ten times. As it was, I planted them 3 times, I think our problem was bad seed. I just could not believe it since I had a big package and could not let it go ! I tried to pre-germinate them before I planted again and yup, they were bad.
The plants that have been most successful this year are the eggplants-- I've tried for years and years and never got an eggplant. I have 12 plants that are flowering and making eggplants!
Are those rattlesnake beans?

The brown and white beans are "Painted Pony" The black and white beans that look like a killer whale are "Magpie"Bush Beans. The black and white speckled beans were labeled "Trail of Tears" but I have grown those before, and they are solid black. So I have no idea what the speckled beans are!
They are beautiful beans. My daughter can't wait to tear up the whole front yard to plant beans next year!!

What's the verdict? Did ya all figure out who's eatin' the beans? Nope. He went out with our highest powered flashlight three times late last night and there was nothing to see. 2:30 am, he went looking, nothing. I'm up early, and see nothing as well. He got up early, then, and saw nothing. We are terrible garden cops.

Is it rabbits? I had snails this spring like a Biblical plague. I bought some gross cheap beer and put it in 1 inch tall cups and that helped 90%. I moved one of my pepper plants to the end of my tomato row and in ONE NIGHT something stripped all the leaves!!! The pepper plant is almost 3 feet above the ground (In a milk crate, on a milk crate) so I know whatever ate the leaves came off the tomatoes. I moved it away from the tomatoes and the leaves are coming back. It's a Trinadad Scorpion pepper plant so, whatever ate the leaves I hope has fire poop!

I was going to ask you, laurazone5, do YOU eat all those hot peppers? I can sometimes eat annaheims and poblanos, the rare mild jalapeno, but those peppers you are growing are a bit hotter. Rabbits, or deer or the fawns (that we saw the other day).

I have Apocolypse Scorpion, Trinidad Scorpion, Ghost, Carolina Reapers, Pepper Fish, and Jalapenos. My oldest child LOVES hot peppers (she is a Chef ) so I grow them for her. I let them dry till the leaves wilt, then water. Makes the peppers hot as fire. She can eat jalapenos from the store like a cucumber....but the ones out of my garden light her up!!!
I am a baby. I cannot do heat like that.

laurazone5, Winter makes me sad when looking at this! Do you compost the remainders?

laurazone5 , Winter makes me sad when looking at this! Do you compost the remainders? My tomatoes had a funk this year so that went in the trash! The rest goes to compost. I blew all the leaves up against the fence to give the ground some yum yums for next year!
