Sometimes 100° is just really hot. Other times it gives me an awe of the sun, like a lowly servant of an unimaginably powerful emperor. But not just me. We have lots of birds around here, but the skies are empty. I did notice one juvenile hummingbird on the coral vine. I wonder if this is the only time she can feed without getting bullied by the other hummingbirds? Occasionally I see small birds darting from one clump of trees to another. They remind me of barefoot kids running across a hot asphalt street in the summer.
The butterflies are having their siesta. I wonder where that is? No bees now. I guess everybody is trying to keep the hive cool. I heard one cicada, but not for long. Guess he said, "the heck with it."
The grass is having the hardest time. I mowed more this spring and summer than I ever have since we moved in seven years ago. Part of me thinks it is getting what it deserves. Yet, they were here first. Sticker burrs on the other hand are just intrusive bullies designed to hurt and injure. I am completely indifferent to their silent agony.
Flowers remind me of a snobby rich lady who perspires but never sweats. One of my favorite all time movies was Lilies of the Field. But even back then I was astonished that the sisters wear all those black clothes in Arizona and never broke a sweat. That was the real miracle of the movie.
The breeze is picking up and the temperature is down to 99°. Me and the other critters have got lots to do before it gets dark.

Flowers remind me of a snobby rich lady who perspires but never sweats. I grew up in the South at a time when ladies still dressed up to go grocery shopping, white gloves, hats, you name it. The saying then was Horses sweat Gentlemen perspire Ladies glow I think I'm part horse...hopefully the front.

And in other weather news, some spots around her yesterday got 11 inches of rain. I was fortunate, we didn't get but 4.
