In our area, they have got to quit mowing the ditches. Lots of milkweed used to grow in them, along with other wildflowers such as butterfly weed, asters, goldenrod, etc. It’s pathetic to watch kill deers running frantically down the road because their nests (and babies) have been run over by the township’s mower. We no longer have bobwhite quail, meadowlarks, wild strawberries, wild black raspberries because of mowing and Roundup.

I have only seen a couple this year? I don't know if Central Indiana has seen the glut of migration yet?

Apparently a lot of monarchs are vacationing in northern Wisconsin this year. After years of seeing tons of tiger swallowtails but almost no monarchs - we have monarchs and lots of them! I've really been enjoying seeing monarchs again - brings back lots of childhood memories.

I have only seen a couple this year? I don't know if Central Indiana has seen the glut of migration yet? I just went out and looked at the milkweed patch. There are still caterpillars on them. This is NW Ohio. I don't think they migrate until after the goldenrod starts blooming. The Monarch butterflies feed on the nectar to gear up for migration.

This is the first year in a long while, that we have more Monarchs! Yesterday alone I saw 7 of them in various spots on my yard. They seem to like something on my privet hedges and roses. Next year I will have a "Butterfly Tree" I just love the Monarchs!!!

Here, this week the Monarchs aren’t as abundant as they’ve been this past month. Are they leaving for the winter already?
