I've been designing crochet patterns and need some testers for them. I'm not worried about how experienced you are because I'd like to make the patterns usable for all skill levels. The first patterns I'd like to be tested are these new residents of Critter Hollow. If you'd like to test one or more let me know which critter (rabbit, bear, raccoon, mouse or coyote) and we'll figure out how to get the pdf pattern to you. The examples were made with a #3 weight yarn and a 2.75mm hook, but you can use a #4 weight yarn and 3.75mm hook if you'd prefer. Thanks!

I am sorry, I don't crochet. I have made knitted critters. Love them.

Those are adorable! Wish I was more experienced in crochet; I'm sort of self-taught and never got beyond doing a rectangle (scarf, throw blanket) in either single or double crochet. Even that has been ages since I crocheted anything

I think y'all would be surprised at how easy they are to make. It's mostly just single crochet with an occasional single crochet decrease thrown in. The hardest part is keeping track of your rounds and even that's easy with a stitch marker.

KyMama, I will test them. I've made bunnies and mouses, maybe the bear or racoon? I love to crochet. If you don't get enough testers, I'm happy to mention this to my needlework group. We meet every Weds am and crochet/knit. Likely one or two ladies would be willing to test.

Thanks for the offer of your group. I think with you I should have enough testers for this batch of critters, but I've got plenty more ideas floating around in my head and I'll probably need more testers later.

Hey y'all. If you're testing one of the critters you should know that they're worked in spiral rounds, you do not join at the end of the round. I just realized that I left that out of the patterns. I've updated them now, but if you received a pattern before today it won't have that instruction in it so please keep it in mind when working them.
Sorry and thanks again!

Why don't I start with the racoon? If you already have a racoon tester, I'm happy with the bear as well. I pm'd you my email address.

It's been brought to my attention that I didn't include the yardage/grams needed for the critters. So I did some math with #4 weight yarn and came up with 50 yards or so for the raccoon, plus 5 yards each of the black and white. I'm going to make the critters again and get a more accurate measurement for each one, but hopefully you can use these to get a rough idea of what you need. Theses guys are pretty small, especially if you use #3 weight. Here's a pic of the raccoon worked in #4 to give you an idea of the finished size.

The arm of the mouse in #3 yarn and a 3mm hook works up to 2.25 inches. He is going to finish up pretty small.

Yes, the #3 yarn makes them so cute and tiny. I actually prefer them that size, but I can't find all the colors I'd like to have. Do you think they are too small and that I should just recommend worsted weight yarn? Something to think about - I'm working on a pattern for a raised bed garden with accessories. Each bed is working up to be the same size as the raccoon with #4 weight yarn. I also plan on making other play sets to go with them, and I'm trying to keep them reasonably sized.

KyMama, I finished the raccoon and it's so cute. I'll send you a pic with a couple questions tomorrow. I'll start on the bear -- I have a little girl that has asked for both of them, but Grandma says she can't have 'hard' eyes due to some developmental challenges so I'll be making yarn eyes.

I think you'd be good to have both sizes. That way you have a parent and child.
I can't wait to see how the rest turn out!
