Nature’s helicopters on a mission! Lovely jewels of the skies. Most looked to be blue as they zigged and zagged in glorious abandon. First time I have seen so many in a very long time.

Oh yeah... and what about those very seldom spotted - those albino monarch flocks?! Exactly!!!!!!!!! Where are they? I've never seen an albino monarch and I was shocked to find they exist, not unlike the hummingfrog. It happens, it just doesn't happen around me!

Don't EVEN get me STARTED in regards to the rather elusive hummingfrog! Oh boy, did I get some totally awesome pics and video tonight my friend... We think it was some type of moth out at the hummingbird feeder... Will work on videos/photos tomorrow... Long live the hummingfrog!!

Mari-in-IN, I'm excited about your new video and pictures. But let's not forget what happened when David and I were locked in a room to settle our differences. The last thing I want to do is hurt you and your hummingfrog.

Sorry about the thread drift dustawaits... Sometimes feather and I get carried away as of late! I just ADORE dragonflies and always have... my earliest memory of them is when we were little kids and we were fishing. There were always these little ones and they loved to perch themselves on the very end of our poles - the majority of the time they were a blue hue. Wow, hadn't thought about that in years! These days, out at the coops, we occasionally have the big ones visiting us, darting this way and that, it is a sight to see and I always keep an eye out for the big blue ones... ~Mari

When I was a child dragonflies were abundant! Now I rarely see, even a one.

I love dragonflies! They're gorgeous, they eat annoying insects, and the past few years they are everywhere!
My favorite dragonfly story was our temporary "pet" dragonfly (or "guard dragonfly", maybe). Several years ago - during a bumper crop period of mosquitoes - I noticed a dragonfly on the door the leads from our attached garage into the house. It was just sitting on the door, hanging out. I decided to watch it, and sure enough it gobbled up a mosquito and then returned to its station on the door. I told dh that as long as the guard dragonfly was there, we'd use another door to get into the house since we have four other doors (used to have 5 other doors; don't get me started on the weirdness that is the design of this house). Anyway, the dragonfly stayed for several more hours before leaving late in the afternoon.
And during mayfly season (ick - I'm so NOT a fan of mayflies), the dragonflies are out in force, swooping down to dispatch at least some of the gazillion little beasts that torment us that week or so each year that everything seems to be covered with mayflies.
Our son recently commented that he'd never seen so many dragonflies in his life, and that while he thought we had a ton of them up here he apparently saw swarming dragonflies while on a run along Lake Michigan, near his home. He thought it was creepy but then again he never seemed to share my love of dragonflies. Fortunately, both grandchildren love dragonflies and are so happy each time they see one. I totally get that!
