Here in the north we get mostly Ocean Spray fresh cranberries. Surprisingly cheap all considered.
My favorite relish recipe.
Fine grind a package of cranberries. Fine grind about half as much naval orange, including about half the rind. To about 2 quart berries and orange add about a cup of sugar. If you need more liquid, use orange juice with pulp. Mix well, cover.
MUST, MUST sit at least overnight in the refrigerator, and 24 to 36 hours is better. Add sugar or orange juice to adjust taste oar consistency.
I always set aside a cup or so of relish and add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Start with a half pinch and adjust to taste. There is a dedicated measuring spoon for a "pinch"
Goes well with left overs.... But then..... Left overs are always good.....
What is your favorite recipe ??

my folks would buy a 25# box of cranberries right as they were being harvested from the bog near their cabin in Wisconsin. They would grind the berries to make relish, use a recipe very similar, if not identical to the one you posted. They would freeze much of it for use all year round.

Lots of "Ocean Spray" bogs on the coast around Bandon Oregon. I have always added 2 oranges and the peel of 1, ground up, to 1 lb of berries. I add 1/4 cup honey and a little sugar to taste....James

These should be coming to our stores now. As we drive across wisconsin and minnesota, we did see bogs with pink berries, the cranberry bogs right next to the highway. I was thinking of you all here. I wonder if cranberries w/orange wouldn't be pretty good with my morning oatmeal/flax porridge.
Edit: I made this, with 1-12 oz bag of cranberries, 1/4 cup water, zest of one orange, peeled it and used the sections in the sauce. Cooked it the minimal amount of time needed to pop all the cranberries. It thickened up in the fridge. Then I ate it with my oatmeal/flax. It was very good. Bright flavors and tart, with bright color. It needs a bit of sweetness added if you like.
