Every night when we go to feed, Shady and Roz crowd the gate and shake us down for handfuls of TMR. Shady will stick her tongue out as far as she can until we shove some feed in her gob!

Thanks Mari! Here's another one Numb made on Thursday when he put out a new hay roll. Check out how Lizzie runs behind the bale then starts dancing around and head-butting it! She's a saucy little cow.

She's a saucy little cow. Girl! I have watched that like three times now and I always laugh at her so totally carrying on behind that big ole round bale! What a treasure she is indeed! Thanks to you and Numb for putting yet another contagious smile upon my face! You two take care now - ya hear? ~Mari

Hey ya willowgirl ! Daniel, our farmer friend who I help with the haymaking and such - was here yesterday. I've been telling him all about your new place for the girls for the past several months and we sat down and I showed him many of your pics and videos of your dear girls enjoying/frolicking in their new digs. He thinks it is so cool in regards to what y'all are doing. He still has one of his Holstein girls from his milking days. She is definitely there to stay... You know, I think I posted a pic of her on one of your threads awhile back? I'll have to see if I can find it - and find out how old she is. And, I also cannot remember what year it was when Daniel stopped milking... Just wanted to say thanks again for your posts/pics/videos because I really enjoy them and now Daniel does too... You guys just have such big hearts... ~Mari

Wow, Daniel retired from milking back in 2010... my, how time flies... Here's the pic I took of ole "36" two years ago... She's 13 now and still plugging along! ~Mari

Aww! She looks like a nice old girl. Fat as a tick, too! Looks like she has some nice pasture there.

Daniel always drills Sudan grass in the two acres (which you cannot see in this pic - it is to the "right" of her) and she and the others had a field day mowing it back - that's why she has a big "tummy"! He lets them run out there for a week or so then turns them all back out on the twenty acres of pasture in which you can see in the background. ~Mari

The sheep farmer up the road had a wagonload of small squares that was parked in her barn, but some rain blew in and wrecked some of the bales. She didn't feel like messing with it so she offered to let us pick through it, buy the good bales for $2 each and pitch the rest. Numb brought a truckload home and put 21 bales in the round feeder yesterday and THEY ATE IT ALL IN ONE DAY, plus their 50-lb. sack of Saturday sweet feed. Unreal! It is time to put these girls on a diet, I think!

I am just SMH. Twenty-one bales of hay! I wouldn't think that would even be possible, and yet ...
Numb set a round bale out for them yesterday. At least they will have to work a little pull the hay off it. It's still fairly warm here so they're still grazing, too. Well at least they won't be cold this winter, with the layers of fat on them!

willowgirl, Perhaps the bales weren't too terribly heavy? The ones we make are probably around 55-60 pounds. What do you suppose yours were? ~Mari

Numb said they were smaller bales than usual ... he estimated the equivalent would have been around 18 normal bales.
The good news is that we put out a round bale on Sunday and it lasted until Thursday afternoon! I guess they were full, lol.

"Snack size" -- LOL, like those tiny candy bars people pass out on Halloween? Seems so ... And the cows always get jiggy when we set out a new bale! Numb says that before he made the above video, when he first dropped the bale, Lizzie butted it so hard she managed to flip it over on its side! Unfortunately he didn't have the camera rolling for that. Ha, the other day he said he was dragging some waste hay down the hill on a tarp and Lizzie came chasing after him, started rubbing her face in the hay, then went down on her knees and finally on her side, rolling around in the hay and kicking her feet! She's a weird little cow.
