Happy May Day, everyone. Hoping MTM or someone else will pop in with the FlyLady info. I'm making a to-do list for the month for organizing and cleaning in my house. Boy, it sure needs it! What are you working on?

Thank you for starting this. Flylady will post the week's tasks tomorrow so I will add them then.
Just a thought while was all cleaning and organizing--folks pay 50-125 a week to pay someone to do this for them. Just think about all the money you are saving! I am working on the kitchen and cleaning the refrigerator today as well as doing the week's laundry. After washing clothes, I'm putting the winter clothes in a box to go on the top of the closet and putting the rattier things into the rag box. I've fallen down on getting rid of clothes when I buy new ones. No more. The motto is One in, One Out!!
I've been cleaning with dance music on. It makes me go faster and sometimes I do a little dancing or a few exercises to make it healthy too.
I like to see how fast I can clean--kind of like a game to get things done. Podcasts help when i'm doing something I don't like--like weeding.

Flylady Tasks for the week of 5/3/15Flylady is wonderful and I cannot thank her enough! Here is the direct link: flylady.net/ Definately worth a visit.
This week we are in Zone 2: The Kitchen
This month's Habit is: Moving (as in exercise, haha, NOT leaving your mess behind. ) Remember: the daily tasks are to be done quickly and only spend 15 min of your time on them. If they are clean already, or you have more time, move on to the detailed cleaning list that follows: Daily Tasks:
Monday: Scrub your kitchen counters well --getting under and behind everything. I like to fill my chrome sink with warm water with a glug of ammonia and a squirt of dish liquid and use a rag to do this. This cleans my sink at the same time. Ammonia and soap water, btw are good fertilizer for your plants.
Tues: Go through your tupperware, or in my case, hillibilly-ware, and toss the cracked ones or orphans. My mil stores lids in a section of a deep drawer that is a Hardees bag with the top rolled down. It stands up and holds everything neatly! I use one side of my drawer to store lids from large in the back to small in the front. Easy to find a match. All hillbillyware are nested then in the deep drawer.
Wed:Clean your small appliances and microwave. For the greasy sticky stuff, I use the ammonia water (above) and the melamine sponges. I heat up a cup of water in the microwave first to soften any gunk. I need to take a toothpick to the back corners this time!
Thurs.Scrub brush the corners/edges of your sink and the faucets. I keep a recycled clean toothbrush for these spots. After I empty the sink of the ammonia water, I sprinkle baking soda (bought cheap at the farm coop in 25 lb bags).
Fri:Wipe down the outside of your cabinets. Mine are wood. I have found that those melamine sponges work great on the grimey stuff around knobs. Otherwise, I polish with lemon oil.
Kitchen: Detailed Cleaning List:
Empty refg/clean thoroughly Clean microwave inside and out Clean stove/oven Wash canister/knick-knacks Straighten drawers/cupboards Wipe fingerprints off walls Wash inside windows Clean fan/vent-a-hood filters and hood Scrub down cabinet fronts (only a few at a time) Clean light defusing bowls (glass globes over light bulbs) Clean under sink/throw away old rags Clean pet dishes

Thanks for this list. I'm always working in the kitchen it is, after all, my office. Also this week I am putting together the other office and the rest of our long living room. We got our daughters' pool table and her curved glass china cabinet to their rightful places in her home and so now I can finally get those rooms the way I want them to be. Cozy, functional and easy to clean in 10 minutes.

Do you suppose the melamine sponges mentioned are the green "Scotchbrite" type or "Mr Clean" white scrubber sponges or something else?

Thank you! I could not pull the name Magic Eraser out of my pea brain, lol. I've never heard them called melamine sponges. The only melamine I remembered were Melmac dishes when I was a kid, and the stuff the Chinese added to dog food.

Cleaning and organizing- Why didn't I do better during the winter?? I'm cleaning out a weird attic space that I've only added more boxes to over the past 7 years. And I'm cleaning up a house that we hope to put on the market this summer. It sure is tricky making time for organizing while still doing all the normal daily chores. Sometimes I think I'm making a bigger mess "organizing".
And I freely admit- I did sidetrack while organizing my canning supplies...I just love stacking and re-stacking my jars- and making lists for how many more jars I'll need this year. It's a problem, I know.
I like getting ideas from the fly lady, too. But for me I prefer knocking out a whole room over a day or two instead of breaking it down over the week. When I take a week to do it, I don't ever feel like I get the gratification of seeing it all done. And then it starts getting "unclean" faster than it gets clean again. I'm a morning person and I love getting up by 5am, drinking a lot of coffee, cleaning out a room and then heading outside for the day. If I don't get the cleaning done early, it just won't happen.

Barefoot former: What I like about Flylady, is that it isn't about what you DIDN't do, it's about what you CAN do with the time you have available and not feeling badly about it. Bad feelins done get stuff done. `

Surely many of you have company coming this weekend and could use a good cleaning!
--Im trying to do my 15 min a day in the bedroom. I got the laundry finally done and put away yesterday (3 loads!!) Im trying to take things from the laundry and go directly to the goodwill bag and rag bag.
--Here is an oldy but goody I did today. I made refried beans in my food processor. Afterwards, I added water and dishsoap and ran the food processor to get the gunk out.
--How often do you paint the interior of your home? What a pain, but I'd like to start doing a room a year.
What is everyone else doing and working on? How much have you tossed or given away? I noticed that I put a clothes basket on the floor of my closet to toss in things to give to goodwill. It's full and now I need to bag it and get it OUT.

What do you use to get scuff marks off linoleum floors? I've even tried SOS pads; they didn't completely get them off.

I use Goop hand cleaner from the automotive section of Wally world. It is non abrasive and you would not believe the nasty stuff I've cleaned with it. Cheap too, less than $2.00 per tub.

Flylady Daily Tasks for the Week of May 24:
Monday: Declutter your living room paying special attention to the things that are normally on your flat surfaces. Do you need those figurines, pots, vases and other dust collectors? Tues: Clean under the cushions. Wed: Clear the hotspots in your living room. Do you have shoes by the door that need to be put elsewhere? Newspapers to be thrown out? Thurs: Clean the areas of the floor next to the baseboards. These often get missed by the vacuum or broom. Fri: Put something pretty in the living room to make you happy. Flylady suggests flowers or a plant.

Here's a cleaning tip to share: Good-quality shower curtain liners usually can be laundered and reused. Just put it in the washer, hot water and a long wash cycle! You can throw other things in there with it. If there is a lot of mineral build-up on the inside (like rust stains) you may want to add a splash of CLR (or a similar product) or squirt it down with bathroom cleaner before you take it down. (Be careful about using bleachy cleaners if you're washing it with clothing or towels.)
When it comes out of the washer, just hang it up again to dry!

I cleaned a bedroom closet and sorted out the boys school clothes. The oldest will need all new uniforms next year, but thank goodness the youngest doesn't have to have uniforms.
Not much garden work yet, it is so wet here. Keeps raining...raining...raining.
