Numb dug out Marianne's old halter today as he wanted me to hang on to her while he trimmed her feet. I don't think it's been on her since we quit milking her four years ago and I can't remember it being so tight then! Do halters shrink?

Looks nylon, they don't usually shrink much. She has probably filled out....James

Reminds of a family friend... he lost his wedding band. About 20 years later, his kids found buried in the yard while metal-detecting. The ring no longer fit him. He fooled his kids into believing that gold shrinks when buried for a while!

I use nylon collars on our pup. If anything they get larger, not shrink. Our pup is constantly scratching around his collar and it stretches it out. I don't think the halter, if nylon, would shrink. Sorry Willow, your gal must have put on a pound or two

My horse halters will shrink if they are left out in the elements. They will loosen after a rain, tighten up when they dry out. I go through a fair amount of halters, but I have one I put on my Mustang daily that has been his halter since he started wearing it 12 years ago:-) It has stayed the same size, and so has my Mustang:-)
The one on your girl there looks like a horse halter:-) I use the ones with throat latch clips, I like them the best.

It used to fit just fine... until the food we feed her made it shrink.

I have to admit, the first thing I thought about when seeing the thread title was something like this...

Ok, yeah... That is the first thing you thought of when reading through responses on a Cattle Board? Talk about tacky...

I never read through individual boards. I go directly to the "Recent Threads" button. Saves wading through stuff..

Yep - saves wading through stuff. When you click on "Recent Threads" - which I rarely do - from my experience you have to click on a thread in order to post. It then tells you at the top - spelled out in black and white - the specific board and what specific thread you are on at the moment. ETA - For whatever the heck it is worth - maybe it's just me, but I always read through an entire thread before posting a reply on it...

Our chubby girl and her friend Hula at lunchtime. Marianne turned 9 in November! She's such a beautiful gal! I shared this pic with our ex-dairy farmer friend - Daniel - and he was most complimentary. Hey, willowgirl , I obviously read your posts and have been wondering - Numb still trims their hooves? Since your gals are now off of cement and are on dirt and whatnot - do they still need trimming? Or is it just Marianne that needs the trimming? I anxiously await your reply as I just love to learn... All of the years I helped Daniel whilst he was milking he never had to have someone come in to trim them - so that is why I am most curious. He was the "old fashioned" type and always kept them on pasture and "rounded them up" every AM and PM at milking time. Except during the nasty parts of winter - he then brought them up to the two acres where they could run around in and the big barn where they could get out of the elements... ~Mari

I just scan through what's cooking and go from there. I do drop down to individual boards when starting threads. Pardon the bad sense of humor, but it struck me as a bit funny, and knowing some of the stuff Willow has posted over the years, I didn't think it would offend her.

No offense taken, Jolly! Mari, yes Numb still trims the girls' feet. Our paddocks and pastures aren't rocky, so they don't wear their feet down much. Luckily all of our girls are pretty good about standing to be trimmed; in fact, we just did a round of it on Sunday. We only had to put a halter on Rozzie and even she didn't put up much of a fight! Hula the goat is part Pygmy and has long hair on her flanks that reminded me of a hula dancer's grass skirt, hence the name!
