What are your ideas for handling papers you want to save? Not the things that belong in a safe deposit box, safe, or file cabinet. Articles, clippings, bits of art work like pictures from magazines, lists, ideas for projects, and so on? I am hoping for ideas that are easy to maintain, easy to retrieve, don't take up a lot of space. Thanks!

Binders and plastic page protectors. I have one for recipes. It's divided by a notebook dividers that are labeled breakfast, bread, dessert, side, main. I drop the recipe into a page protector under the appropriate heading. They are recipes that I've hand written, printed online, snipped off the back of a package, etc. I have the same thing for crochet projects. Obviously different subjects and yarn wrappers instead of flour bags.

I have a banker box named 'nostalgia', stuff that is not family photos but snippets from dozens of places, that I can't throw out.

Apparently I am the only one with a computer. I scan the article using the printer and store it in documents. I can then read it without tearing the house apart. I can also print it out. I have created my own cookbook this way, using plastic page protectors and a binder. But, if I loose the binder I can always just go to my computer.

Maura, I have lots of things saved on my computer, but for a fair number of pages, say downloads of free sheet music, I'd still rather have a paper copy in a labeled file. I find it a lot faster to take out the folder labeled "piano-late beginner-Xmas" and thumb through it than use a computer file. I've made a point of penciling on the back of pages who I assigned something to, with a date, so that I don't copy "new" that isn't.

In that case, Use Less, I like file folders. They keep everything in their own little worlds. You can hang them in a file, or stack them on a shelf or under the bed. And, did I mention cheap?

Our calendar has a pocket for each month, removed and folded over when month has passed, sealed and stored in a small flat box. Garden journal, daily life and memories are all there. Project ideas are put in return envelopes from junk mail, labeled, cabin, garden, motor home, etc. Ideas found on the computer are bookmarked in files there....James

I dug out 20 years of ideas this spring and carried them with us in the motor home. We talked a lot about the upgrades we wanted to do to the cabin after getting off the road this year. Getting all the ideas together gave us the energy to start our "last" cabin. Lots of little things to make it easier as we age, new technologies and materials....James

I have a banker box named 'nostalgia', stuff that is not family photos but snippets from dozens of places, that I can't throw out. I have three boxes that I bought from IKEA some time ago called TJENA Storage box with lid, black, 9 ¾x13 ¾x7 ¾ " They're not quite as deep as bankers boxes but are big enough to hold the things I want. I do have a small filing cabinet too,but I find it easier to just lift a box lid and drop whatever in it. One box is for jewelry making ideas, one for knitting ideas and the final box is called decorating inspiration, because my home need sprucing up and I can never figure out what I want to do first.

@jwal10, Our calendar has those pockets and I'm going to start using this same method. Thanks for the idea.
