Hello fellow gardeners I’m seeking some quince tree seeds. Does anyone have some to share? Also, was wondering what you do with your quince? How hard are they to process? Do you let them sit a bit and ripen more prior to processing?

I don't ever remember eating quince. I don't ever remember seeing quince in a grocery store. Must be a northern thing.

Quince is a lot like apple: won't necessarily breed true from seed to produce a tree that bears the same, or even tasty fruit. If you are making jam, conserve, or sauce, you can mill the skins out after. For jelly, you need to peel. A Swedish peeler works; a regular veg peeler does not. I've made a pie of quince (need to cook pretty long), and also made meat dishes, or a sauce for meat, with an Asian, Indian or African flair: raisins, figs, prunes, nuts, sweet spices and quince. Quinces stay hard. They may get more yellow off the tree, but not a lot. Trying to let them soften means you're letting them rot. Quinces keep quite long in cool storage. If they start to have soft spots, they are still typically usable. Being so hard, a rotten spot doesn't spread quite the way it will do in a stored apple.

Ya, I realize the risk from seed starting. But I have over 30 from seed apple trees with amazing apples. Where as all the trees purchased have been struggling for years just to grow. Lol. I’d just like to plant a bunch here and there on the land for myself and critters.
