How come they can't be shipped as media? They are media... You and I would think that because we are not the post office! Magazines have advertising so they are not considered media. You can ship them media if you want but I know that some PO's check media mail packages and you could get in trouble. Not sure if trouble would extend beyond having to pay the additional postage. I do a lot of shipping so I won't take the chance. You could probably put them on the barter board here and maybe find someone close to you that would like to buy them and pick them up.

they can't go as media due to the ads in them but you can ship them as standard, first class or priority depending on how you want to package and how far they are going for a decent rate usually (any media mail is subject to inspection to check that it is really media it is one of the rules we get to follow even when we don't understand it in the postal system)

Just wanted to report that everything was all tidy and even clean in time for the party. Just had 11 people altogether because of a few cancellations, but a good time was had by all. Everyone was instructed to bring tapas/meze/hors d'oeuvres/appetizers, and we noshed on them and yammered from 2:30 till 9pm. Great success! Here is a picture of the kitchen floor, so you can see how good it looks with a coat of wax, and then another shot showing some of the open floorplan.

I wanted to report that I am doing my best to maintain the clean kitchen, and the rest of the house, too. I like a clean house. It's cleaning it I don't like...

snoozy - the media shipping issue is that anything with advertisements is technically not allowed so magazines are not allowed. Many sellers do not know this, and you will see media shipping offered on ebay for magazines all the time.
Quoting the pertinent part from the usps website:
"Books, including books issued to supplement other books, of at least eight printed pages, consisting wholly of reading matter or scholarly bibliography, or reading matter with incidental blank spaces for notations and containing no advertising matter other than incidental announcements of books. Advertising includes paid advertising and the publishers' own advertising in display, classified, or editorial style."
The usps can and does open media mail for inspection. Magazines are not allowed and will be sent back if I recall, or delivered with postage due. This can cause a lot of problems for sellers as it can delay the process of getting the mags to the buyer.

Good job, snoozy! I didn't realize you had a strawbale house. I'd love to see it someday, or at least pics! I've often thought I'd like to build one, but our county is so hard to work with that I don't know if they'd go for it. I have to ask, and feel a little stupid for the asking...but what is a straw bale house? Pics?! Ok, I looked up online about straw bale houses. Very cool! I honestly had never heard of that, and I am married to a master builder...one would think I would have heard about that type of building! There were some really interesting photos online, some very beautiful homes! Interesting thoughts....
