Time for our first quilt of 2023. This one is going to run from now (March 19) to June 1st. Sign-up starts today; I will start mailing fabric March 30th. Anyone with interest in sewing a block is welcome to sign up, no quilting experience necessary. Long timers, you know how this works. But, as usual, here's a refresher:To each person who signs up, I will send a 12" square of fabric. Using that fabric, and any other fabrics you like, you will sew a quilt block of any pattern you desire, as long as it finishes at 12.5 inches square. Please wash and dry all fabrics you use (forum fabric has all ready been prewashed), but please do not use fabric softener.
Mail your block back to me in time to arrive in my mailbox by June 1st to be eligible for the drawing. Please make sure to put enough postage on it, and allow about two weeks for delivery (just in case USPS has a case of the slows). For each block received by the deadline, I will enter the name of the member who created it into the drawing, and then draw a winner at random after the deadline of June 1st. The winning name will be posted on this thread, so don't forget to check back to see if you might be the lucky winner!
The person whose name is drawn at random will receive all the blocks.
The winner is responsible for supplying (either purchase or use stash fabric) four yards of fabric for the next forum quilt and must mail me that fabric. Once the new fabric has been received, I will send the winner the blocks they won, plus an extra yard of the forum fabric to use in finishing their quilt.
Sign up by posting on this thread, then PM me your mailing address. In the PM, you can let me know if you would like one piece of fabric or more than one. Also, if you would like to make a block, but don't really want to be included in the drawing, put that in your PM; it's perfectly fine to make blocks without having to be in the running for the whole shebang.

I just received my lovely squares! I immediately thought of several patterns that would be perfect for that print.

Got the fabric. Changed my mind about the block. I was going to do clamshells, but decided it wasn't suitable for a 12 x 12 block.

krisinmi , calicokatie1 , mzgarden , frogmammy , Maura , lindym , I apologize for being MIA during this quilt. The death of my DIL in early April really has added a layer of complexity to the super busy time that is Spring on the homestead. Hopefully everyone received their fabric in a timely fashion and has been able to sit down and do some sewing. The due date is June 1st, which means that this week is time for mailing your blocks if you want to be included in the drawing. Even in you don't want to be included, if you are able to get them in before the deadline that really helps with having things ready for me to mail off to the winner as soon and she sends in the fabric for our next quilt. I'd like to be able to get that next quilt sign up going around Labor Day, which means not delaying to drawing for the winner of this set of blocks. Again, sorry for leaving you all leader-less in this current forum quilt.

Please don't apologize. We know what we are supposed to do. Thanks for all that you do!

So sorry for your loss, Kris. It seems like this past couple of months has flown by and I lost track of when this was due. I'm running to catch up and should get to the post office by Wednesday. I think they'll still get there in time but leave my name out of the drawing. It looks like it's going to be too busy to even blink this summer!

Mine will be late. My car is in the shop and I can't get to the post office. It's okay, I already won one.

Kris, I mailed the blocks off May 25 and you are supposed to get it the 31st. If it's late no problem as I don't really want to be put in the drawing.

calicokatie1, lindym, I received your blocks in Saturday's mail. Love, love, love all the creativity and the many ways you two used the fabric. Thanks, also for the postage fund donations.

frogmammy, your blocks arrived yesterday. Really like all the different fabrics you used; I think you found a way to highlight every single color in the forum fabric!

krisinmi, calicokatie1, mzgarden, frogmammy, Maura, lindym, Ladies, we have a conundrum. . . Of the blocks received so far--nothing new in the mail since June 1st--each and every one of the makers has politely requested to not be in the drawing. Which means that I have no winner to announce (and the reason there's been no new post on this thread since the deadline). I'm not sure how to proceed with this, as this is a first ever occurrence, although I confess that being there are only six participants this go round, I guess it wasn't out of the realm of possibility! Given the small number of people sewing, there are LOTS of blocks, DOZENS of blocks, for this quilt. I would like feedback from everyone on how we should handle this unusual situation of no drawing of a winner. I do have fabric here, thanks to a donation years and years ago from someone who couldn't participate but wanted to help out with the expense that is purchasing 4 yards of fabric, that can be used for this fall's forum quilt. BUT WHAT TO DO WITH THESE GORGEOUS BLOCKS?!?Please give your thoughts below, or message me privately (if you prefer) on a solution for our unique problem.

I guess my block hasn't arrived yet, boo. I don't think I withdrew my name from the drawing. I hate to be the only one, but if no one else is putting their name into the hat, I've never won a homestead quilt before so I'd be more than ok to try to put them together. I'd feel better if other names were in the hat, but if not, I'll do my best.

We could give them to someone who hasn't won before. For instance, mzgarden. If there are more blocks than needed for a quilt, maybe another quilter who participated last time and has never won? I still don't have my car. Got a ride into town yesterday for church, but the post office was closed.

krisinmi, I say put mzgarden's name in the hat. If there's ever a need, I also have fabric I could donate to the cause.

krisinmi , calicokatie1 , mzgarden , frogmammy , Maura , lindym , dw , Thank you, everyone, for sharing your thoughts on how to conclude this forum quilt. It's really great to see that the unanimous decision matched the idea I'd been tossing around in my head. The mailman finally brought me something I wanted to see in my mailbox, and our winner is. . . mzgarden !!!! Congratulations!

krisinmi, calicokatie1, mzgarden, frogmammy, Maura, lindym, dw, thank you all. I'm thrilled, this will be a new and challenging step to my baby-step sewing skills. I will take my grandladies to the store today and see if I can find some Fall-ish fabric for our next quilt. Yippee!
