Last few days we've been getting rain regularly. It's saving me from having to water the garden, but making it difficult to get the grass cut. Strong storms Monday night meant more road closures on my way to my Mom's. There is only one road left open to get up and down off the mountain, so if it doesn't stop raining soon, we may lose that one too.

We had just over 1 1/2" of rain in early August but nothing since. The temps the last 2 weeks have been between 95-100o with unbelievable humidity/heat indices. We had heavy fog Monday and Tuesday and I felt like I were breathing through a heavy WET wool blanket. The WX guys said we set a new record for high humidity Tuesday at 82% that had stood for ages.
Which means the paddock where the tenant's cows are is getting eaten down badly. We do NOT mess with the cows. They don't know us, we don't know them. He was injured in a car wreck over the past weekend so can't finish fencing the last paddock. That means he'll have to put them back on the first paddock IF and WHEN he can move well enough to get back over here. This doesn't bode well for our continuing the grazing the next two summers. I already mentioned a neighbor complaining about the calves getting out. It's okay for her dog to come over here...

mogal, I keep praying to send some rain your way. Hubby is complaining that he is tired of mowing since we usually don't have to mow at all in August. I just keep telling him to be thankful as there are many people/places that would love to have our rain. Today was a high of 73 and it's currently raining again. Of course, with all the rain the mosquitos are going nuts! I'm tired of being itchy!

We had to go to Columbia this morning for an early afternoon appointment. We finished and were heading home about 2:30 when the temperature readout on the dash showed 100o. UGH! The humidity was about 65% which was bad, but not so bad as earlier in the week. This mess will continue through tomorrow when I have to take the new puppy who at 3 months old already is big enough to look like an adult to the vet for her first shots, etc. On Monday when we have to go back to Columbia, the temperature is forecast to be the lowest daytime high for nearly the whole month.
Countrymom22, thanks for the prayers for rain. As bad as it is here, I think it's worse down in Texas, OK and KS. At least we have enough pasturage and hay for the goats. The tenant's cows will go home the end of October unless we decide to terminate the agreement earlier. With his accident, I doubt he'd be able to take them home any time soon anyway. He came over very briefly this morning, looked at the cows and left. I would have appreciated his letting us know what his plans are for moving them either to the first paddock which has regrown or back to his house.

We got another inch overnight. Unfortunately, it's fair week here, and the fair goers will not appreciate the high humidity and mud today. Don't know if they had to cancel the fireworks for tonight.
I hope the tenant heals quickly and clues you into his plans, sooner rather than later. I hate being in limbo about anything!

By comparison to the temps this last week, today feels almost cold! I think our high was 78 and we've gotten a half inch of rain today.
Despite the rain we've gotten, I wouldn't begin to call the drought over.
Our tenant came over this afternoon between rain storms and moved the cows back to the first paddock they were in which has regrown very well so maybe now the neighbor can't complain because the grass is greener on this side of the fence for the cows! Tenant and DH drained and moved the trough back to this paddock which will be easier to monitor than where it was in the back paddock.

With all the recent rain our grass needs cutting again. We're expecting more rain overnight tonight. Then a few clear, cooler and less humid days, right through the weekend. I'm going to take advantage of the weather change to get some things done outside since I know we aren't done with the heat and humidity yet!
