of a color to paint dining room furniture. I bought an old table, chair and non-matching large hutch.
I really like the Expresso color instead of black. I think black is getting too common and see too much of it in cheap furniture, but am afraid that expresso is off the track.
Walls are cottage white with warm reddish old oak flooring. No other colors in the room. Chairs need recovering, and will get material after they are painted. I will not be painting the table top (medium yellowish wood color ) as it is in great condition and have not decided what to do with the Scandinavian (simple) style of the hutch.
What ever color I decide, with your suggestions, I will carry that through to my coffee table and kitchen chairs.
I'd love to do a silver (not bright silver, more antiqued) leaf finish on the hutch to accent the fact it is not matching rather than try to disguise the fact it doesn't match. Ralph Loren Metallic has a silver leaf finish with a brownish tint. But am concerned it may be overwhelming as it's a large hutch. Maybe painted with silver inside the cabinets? Probably see what the table & chairs looks like before I decide on the hutch.
Hope you can help with expresso or black....Oh, matt finish or satin or....Any comments on the hutch will also be appreciated.
This is my first project and is a big one so I really need input, please.

My favorite spray paint (Rustoleum Painter's Touch) has a nice espresso ... I believe it's in a satin finish. Of course, if you have a large area to paint, using spray paint could be costly! :0 Like you, I think espresso is more interesting than black.
