Hello All,
Just found this forum today and thank God I did because I'm having goat fencing issues.
We just moved to a new place last month and have 26 overgrown acres that will eventually need clearing. Priority right now it a little 1/4-1/2 acre lot that we would like to make a garden space. Right now it is overgrown with pricker bushes, shrubs, brambles, wild grape vines, etc. I'd like to get my 3 lamancha does in there to start cleaning it out. At our previous place we kept them in with Kencove electric net fencing (here) and .5J solar charger (here), never had issues.
So we get the electric net set up around the area where they want it cleared and they're out as soon as I turn my back. No shock in the fence at all. I'm thinking that the area is too overgrown and it is shorting out? We did some weed clearance as we were setting up the fence, but a lot of the fence sags onto the ground even using additional poles. I then just set up the fence in the flat, mowed yard just to see if I can get a charge through it. Voltmeter at the charger is reading 6kV, only 1-2kV on the fence. Goats are hopping right out.
I'm thinking at this point I will try a simple 5-strand electric and t-post fence with this charger (here) Any thoughts? I guess I'm looking for something that we can put up quickly as they have been in the barn eating hay and I would like to get them outside as quickly as possible.
We will probably keep them in the barn and only put them out when we are home, but I'd like to not have to be outside watching them the whole time - a lot needs to get done around here and I don't have time to be following them around the yard.
