In 3 days (Saturday) DS and DS will be at an all day class for blacksmithing!!!! Yeah, a one day class isn't much but it's a start. They take part 2 next month. Morning will be filled with history and basic how to.....afternoon is all hands-on Yes, I'm excited....this is something I have wanted to do since I was a kid.....so ....once they start learning and getting equipment.....I can start learning, too! DH has been pinning things on Pinterest for weeks now.....he's drooling over the possibilities!

Have fun, good way to save money. I still use my shop a day or 2 a week, mostly fun but some fix-it. I really like making gate hardware and hinges....James

Hooks and trivets seems to be in DH's crosshairs. I'd LOVE to outfit my house in homemade hooks!!!

My DH and I took a 4 day class a few years ago, and we both loved it. We're slowly accumulating tools and an anvil or three. He's been having rotator cuff trouble so hasn't made anything yet. I hope to fire it up this spring.

ohiodreamer , if I may ask, who is putting on this class? @andynonymous, Zoar, it's a Historical Village, place kids go on school field trips. Not sure if you are "local" to me so I thought I should explain just in case. They both loved both parts of the class. We are currently trying to move so they can have the space to set up a small blacksmithing area. Not looking to do it for income....although, selling a few pieces here and there would be nice to offset the cost of the stuff we want for ourselves

<off topic> ohiodreamer, I had to look it up. I see it's just a few smiles east and south of Lehman Hardware, OH; home of Kidron. There I've been. It almost appeared they hired some of the local Amish/Mennos to wander around the store just for the tourist "Oooh, ahh! Look! REAL Plain Folk" factor. (lol) Also been through Zoar Valley, NY once, which in places is more like a 400' deep chasm. Apparently no connection with the Ohio Zoarites. The best on-line history I could find on it is here: gowandaahs.org/articles/zoar_of_yesterday.html</off topic> Congrats on having two young smiths in the family. May the ring of their anvils be many, and their burns, few.

After Hubs' first class, he was hooked for life! He has committed to teaching three guys from the big city this Spring (as soon as he gets his shop set back up). Enjoy your new hobby!!!!
