Have any of you successfully vac-sealed powdered milk in qt jars? If so, how did you keep the powder from whooshing into the vacuum sealer?

I allow 1&1/2 inches head space in half-gallon jars. Just for general powder precaution I have a bit of cotton jammed up in the handle of the jar sealer, on the other side of where the hose enters the sealer, to filter particles.

Thank you. Are you talking cotton, like cotton balls, or are you talking about a square of cotton fabric?

I used some cotton balls teased out to be fluffy, fabric would probably work as well. You could use coffee filter paper or the like too. Anything to catch powder before it enters the vac tube and still be porous enough not to impede suction.
