Yup, Annie's a tortie and white. She got along well with my other cats, but she was related to most of them. I'd have to check my records to make sure I'm right, but she was born either 2001 or 2003, so is a senior citizen. I'm her human...she tolerates other people, especially if they will scritch her ears, but won't sleep with anyone else, and really likes to be next to me, wherever I happen to be. I figure she's the sole survivor and has earned her "only cat" status. Torties do seem to be more likely to have a mind of their own and do not seem to suffer fools gladly. I've had a few exceptions, but most of my torties fit the stereotype.

Sure am enjoying this thread; and love those pics. Never was permitted to have cats growing up as all said they gave my sister and I ringworms. When grown rescued two (2), had them speyed and then a wild one just showed up. Had that one speyed too. Then the calico and wild one both disappeared leaving only the white one (3 colors of white with some tiger strips as well). This one is named Jet and is now about 9 yrs old (human years). She is a sweetheart. Jet has always been a "house cat" until just recently. When I was gone for those 15 days (surgery/rehab) I left her outdoors with the dogs. Since that time, she has preferred to be outdoors, except during bad weather. Jet has often caught mice and brought them to me laying them at my feet as though she has given me a great gift. ROFL Here is a video my son took of the first two we got playing with my GSD. (Just turn the volumn off because the TV was on.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pbeGOeqH0YAt present Jet is outdoors climbing all over the roof of my barn. ROFL Willowgirl, gotta love those calico kittens!

I woke up at 5 a.m. to find Derp sitting on my chest, licking one of my eyebrows.
Suffice to say I think he's going to be an indoor cat ...

Yes, now that nights are cold, he and his momma have decided to sleep on top of me, and that 5 a.m. is the proper time for the hooman to wake up and bestow affection! My attempts to persuade them otherwise have so far been unsuccessful ...

Max, OTOH, was swinging like Tarzan from my Boston fern this morning ... :-0
While I looked on in horror, Numb nearly hurt himself laughing.
Time to go play outdoors, Max ...!

Poor Persephone was declawed by someone, I think it contributed to her crabby nature. She swats at the other cats and has to add some bluster and noise to it to make up for the fact there is no claws to back it up.

My attempts to persuade them otherwise have so far been unsuccessful ... This post reminded me of the YT video I so thoroughly enjoyed www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4Sn91t1V4g give it a look when you have a few moments, I think any cat owner would enjoy the humor in that video Cat videos on youtube are my kryptonite lol. That mama cat is such a pretty one! Probably one of the prettiest I have ever seen myself well Like mzgarden said whatever you do, don't stop posting pics of your cats and kittens. Love them!

Over the years we've had 5 cats here. Every one of them not only slept with us but 4 insisted on being under the covers. One always stretched out alongside my back. Two curled up behind my legs. One would usually be next to my chest and I'd smell cat breath all night! Remaining one would be by my belly. All learned to find there way under by themselves. Probably a sign that the house is always cool in the winter since they never did it in the summer. With the present one, I may lay down for a nap and she will claw at my shirt collar to remind me to swing the spread over me so she has her place to nap, too.

Our dogs do that. NObody rests until they burrow under the covers and wedge themselves under you.
NObody here sleeps very well anymore. Well, the dogs do.

I woke up last night in the middle of the night; I had been sleeping on my side and three of the cats were perched on top of me like birds on a branch. lol Scored another door identical to the one in the pic today -- it was on the curb with a "FREE" sign on it! I'm not sure what we'll do with it ... we may have to remodel the whole house again to make room for it, LOL.

Cats are like people, all with their own individual personalities. Fourteen years ago, neighbor abandoned three young cats, moved out and left them. I noticed them, though he just maybe went off for time and coming back. Nope, got to feeding them over there, then one day notice one had kind of a bulgy tummy. Then noticed another. Ut oh, betting its not worms... Brought them home, all three female, adolescents, and very pregnant. Think at one point had 15 cats, it was an adventure getting them all fixed. But no time at all they charged out into the world, except two that preferred to be house cats. One that just died this past January spent her entire life in the upstairs room she was born in except for vet trips. Her choice.
Some cats are just not outdoor cats. Others want to spend all time possible outdoors unless very cold or wet and will make forays outside even on those days. One on my lap now, just barely out in yard during summer to escape heat of the house, otherwise house cat. Gone four month. I thought something had killed her. But this emaciated little furry skeleton showed up late December very weak. Fattening up and doing fine. No idea what got in her head at 14 to go off on a road trip and no idea why she stayed away so long. That kind of severe emaciation had to be painful. Cats that wander tend to do so at much younger age. Some its a one time big adventure, others become travelers. And cats gone more than a month tend not to make it back.
Will say used to be annual event before the herd of cats to do a fall mouse poisoning. Otherwise they would infest the house and do lot damage. I had up to three cats before that, though had dwindled to one elderly cat and mice infestation just too much to keep up with. First summer with all the young cats, they wiped out all the mice and some rats within any distance of the house. It was a competition sport with them. No more poison since. Though I do occasionally find mouse body parts laying around. Course some never do but thats kinda unusual in a cat. Cat instinct to hunt small animals and birds.

Wow! You are *really* lucky to have gotten that old cat back! I don't think I've ever heard of one making it back after being gone so long. Our Neeky, who started life as a barn cat, has decided she likes visiting us in the house. Oh well, what's one more?! Numb calls her the "Come and Go Cat." When she goes outside, she sometimes stays away for two or three days at a time, but always comes back looking no worse for wear. It's possible she has another family somewhere! She's a very charming cat. Neeky is Juliet's big sister, making her auntie to the kittens. One more ... Derp sleeping in the pot that holds my hibiscus tree. (Numb had to make a cardboard baffle to cover the dirt, because the kittens wouldn't stay out of it and were making a mess!)

I have 6, 4 black and 2 calico. I doubt any of them have ever seen a mouse. Since I am on a busy road, I don't let them out at all. Love them to death. Have had cats most of my life, and never had one with a kink in the tail, my 3 year old has one, and the "former" kitten I got last summer has several. They are all rescues, except one, she belonged to someone who passed away, and I was the "preferred"recipient. They had her spayed for me. I think the kitten is going to be huge. His name is Boonwell Lanier...after the hunky lifeguard in China Beach. I was watching the DVD series at the time I got him. Perfect name too, he is a ladies man.

My two little kittens have been busy growing, Mischif, the one found in our barn with 4 brothers at about 4 weeks old is definitly an outside cat, she's also very friendly purry and loves to sleep in your arms. Lurky the boy is a couple of weeks older, and will NOT go out. He's going to get a rude shock when he gets thrown out in the summer, I will be nice enough to wait for warmer weather. all my cats have to go outside as I hate litter trays, but I also provide cat flaps so they can come and go as they please, they're both turning into little mousers, but lurky is not very friendly, if you sit still for an hour or so he'll come and sit on you and fuss, but as soon as you move he bolts.

willowgirl , I very literally LOL when I saw Derp's pic in the pot. He looks like a drunk sleeping off a bender! eta: I almost forgot to congratulate you on scoring another cool door! I can't believe you managed to get not one, but two of them. Some people have all the luck!

Derp raises sleeping to an art form! That pot is one of his favorite spots for napping, as it's only a couple of feet from the woodstove. He and his brother are going to be enormous cats ... they're not even a year old yet! :0

LOL, nope! Just the other day, I told Numb that I really didn't want Max going outside, especially at night, as I'm worried he'll get hit on our road. I've gotten so attached to my little buddy, I just couldn't bear to see that happen. We don't really *need* five housecats ... sigh ... but these guys provide us with so much entertainment! We just love them to pieces.

I used to live in a very small house with about a half dozen cats, so I know what it's like. They just have a way of worming themselves right into our hearts, don't they? I'm down to one elderly girl, but the way she's been racing around playing lately, I think maybe she is ready for kittens to join us after all. I swear she is hitting her second kittenhood...attacking her tail like it was a foreign object never before discovered, sudden spurts of energy that involve tearing about the house and beating up on helpless throw rugs and bath towels, and spending every. single. waking. moment. glued to my side, or more likely, sitting on my head and flossing her teeth on my hair, lol. I have to admit, it's hilarious to see this from a cat who has raised the art of sleeping to an Olympic sport!
