I just purchased a Cricut explore for myself yesterday. I am new to paper crafting. There are so many different materials that can be cut with this machine. I was just wondering if anyone has this type of machine and any tips for a newbie.

If you do any vinyl, order your supply's from a sign distributer like this one. www.beacongraphics.com/Buying 15" vinyl at Wal-Mart, or a fabric shop is crazy $$ for the amount you get.

I know I'm late to this discussion, but I wanted to chime in. I don't have the cricut, I have a Silhouette Cameo. I ended up with the Cameo because it doesn't use cartridges. Does the Explore use the cartridges? I know they made one that was more like the Cameo where you can use whatever image you want, you just have to use the program to trace it. I love having it because you can cut just about anything with it. I started out using it for scrapbooking, then I moved onto vinyl. I've done a lot more with the vinyl, but I still use it occasionally for paper crafting.
I use different blades for paper and vinyl. Paper dulls the silhouette blades more quickly than the vinyl. I buy my vinyl from expressionsvinyl.com. When I first started I joined a Facebook group for newbies. If you're on Facebook I'm sure there are groups for the Cricut too. I learned a lot from the groups without ever having to ask a question.
Most importantly - Have Fun!
