After several years of looking we finally closed the deal on a place in Missouri. Pretty big house on 38 acres with a couple of outbuildings and two wells, fenced and cross fenced, about 35% pasture/glade and the rest forested, fenced garden spot, two wells, a pond and the 25,000 acre lake is 1/2 mile a way in three directions with access without leaving the property and public land. A ton of diversity in the biosphere and lots of fruit and nut bearing trees and bushes. There are 160 walnut trees which have some commercial value. A bit strange returning to Missouri after 40 years and moving from a very large city to a county with 8,000 people. Be a real relief to get out of the city.

Exciting isn't it. I can remember it was like yesterday, but a bit over six-years for us now. Welcome to the state from Southeast MO.

Wow! Sounds great! So what's your first animal going to be? Chickens first, going to try to train some guineas as well. Then hair sheep and maybe try to raise a couple of calves a year.

I still travel, I get really itchy if I don't get out of the country at least once a year as well as traveling in North America. I just got back from a 5500 mile road trip.

@wanderer0101, Congrads and please check out the trees on property and research as several are posinous to livestock, and yes pictures are a must have for us addicts

I totally agree with Shellymay about the need to check out your trees. And while you're talking with the agricultural people there, you might ask about the vegetation growing on your place. Don't know what might be harmful to calves as I have dairy goats. Still I do know some wild vegetation is not good for grazing animals.
Sure like your choice of guineas and hair sheep...

Train guineas??? Oh-ho! LOL!!!! <koff> <koff> Ahem! Hey, sounds.... lol!!! No, no, really... We had guineas once. Once. Was not one of our better adventures, but it was educational. I'm just being silly, of course. Just because we were unsuccessful doesn't mean you will be. In fact, I hope you can train those little buzzards just to prove to all the rest of the guinea fowl in the world that they WILL be subjugated to and by humans. Once you get here, if you don't already have a connection, I can hook you up with some nice Katahdins from our place or a good neighbor's farm. If you're looking for Barbados, I have a connection for them as well.

I know the guinea training is problematic but I've got a book that gives the instructions for doing it so we will see. If that doesn't work, I really like to eat guinea.

Looks wonderful! Love the house. We have plans drawn up to build a new house at our place, and it will have the full-length covered porch too.

I think guineas are the only poultry that eat tent catepillars. But the screeching...oy! No, thanks.
