Sevin is an insecticide and thus should not affect any part of the tree, fruit included. It's also one of the safest non-organic products.

Puddle: Attended a herbicide use training course last spring. County agent here told us that the preferred insecticide for gardens was liquid Sevin.
I have used Sevin for years; I think the Sevin dust is probably the best thing for potato beetles that I've ever run across. I am careful not to use Sevin, liquid or dust, on anything that is in bloom. The dust drifts of course, so even more care is required for that than for the liquid.
An added advantage for Sevin, liquid or dust, is that a little goes a long way.
