aoconnor, LOL.....Still have 125 more to lamb out, think I will wait and do group shots Second ewe lambed out today, triplets......we don't let our sheep raise trips, so we always pull one and bottle feed and sell as bottle baby, yep I now have a bottle baby in house and once I know colostrum needs have been met and taking bottle good I will post on CL Our girls weren't due until tomorrow but you always get those one or two early birds, so from here on out we should start seeing 3-5 ewes lamb in the same day, gets real busy this time of year

I have sold 9 Bottle Babies to date.
I am keeping 6 Bottle Babies to date for my self.
We have had 8 lambs born dead, and 1 lamb died after it was 2 days old.... I will have to check my records but we have somewhere around 90 lambs now.

Shellymay completely blew off our 2018 lambing. It's not like she has anything else to do.

Lambing this year has been the worst ever. We've been leaving our ram with the flock, and wouldn't you know they all decided to start dropping babies starting the first week of February. Cold and wet, just plain miserable lambing weather. We had one gal who had gotten huge, and went shocky. We gave her the inducing shots, and she had one big stillborn, but we had to go in after the other two. It was just too much for her, and she died. They probably weighed 7-8 pound each, poor gal.
We've had 3 bottle babies out of the 16 total so far, we put them on Craigslist, and they were gone the same days. Charged $45 ea, but we'd have given them away to avoid the constant feeding and aggravation.
Last weekend we gave our ram away to a family who lives close to Pony. He's a Kathadin, and the gentlest ram I've ever seen, and huge - probably 300#. He's been with us a little over two years, so it was time for him to move on. Too good an animals to put in the freezer. We'll be getting another ram from Pony late next fall, probably around the beginning of November, no more dead of winter lambings!

I took the ram(s) out at Labor Day, put them back in the heard Thanksgiving. I always said Santiago was the most thankful critter in our family.
I have friends who remove the rams in early august, but thankfully I just need to remember "Labor" day as in putting it off until the snow melts.

We tried to lamb in February one year and lost half of our lambs to weather. Never again, It's March or later for us.

We ended up lambing in February two years ago also, after the rams got out and we left them out. Sucks when your ram pasture isn't secure so I didn't see much point in separating them from the ewes. Big mistake, should have locked the boys in the barn lot for another six or eight weeks, and put the ewe lambs we kept in the ram pasture. We lost lambs due to the weather plus we didn't know who the sires were. So of course they didn't have registration papers and just went for meat.
The replacement ewe lambs were bred for May lambing and we knew who the sires were. What a difference.
So glad everything is back to normal this year! The weather has been horrible with record cold, snow, lots of ice, and now mud. I shouldn't even talk about #2 ram, who was for sale, dying mysteriously after being turned out with a handful of ewes (it was probably from fence fighting with the new #1 ram BTW).

Our last ewe lambed yesterday, twins. As usual for her, she rejected one. If she wasn't my favorite she'd be in the freezer. I put the bottle baby on Craigslist last night, and two hours later a family bought it. They'll pick up this evening. So glad this year's lambing is over. I promise to be smarter next time.

I started lambing Sunday evening. Single ram lamb who was good sized for an Icelandic lamb. We ended up pulling him since ewe just could not push him out. He was definitely stressed at birth. We stimulated him and hung him upside down to clear his lungs. Weighed him this morning and he is has already gained a pound. And just have two more ewes due next week. I have really cut down the size of my flock, but still enjoy the lambs.

ketoriverfarm, There's nothing better than what we call the "Lamb Olympics". We watch the whole crews running up and down the small pasture, jumping and flipping around. It usually goes on for a half hour or more. Oh to have that energy.

Ozarks Tom, we call them the “lamb races”. But yes the very best part of having lambs. Our lamb ram weighed 13 pounds today. Growing fast.

My second ewe lambed this morning. She is a wonder. I checked her at 10 am this morning. No sign of contractions, water bag, nada. At 10:35 am I head back to the barn to fill water troughs. The ewe has one lamb almost cleaned up and pushes out the second. This is her 7th year to lamb. She has produced a single, triplets, triplets, triplets, twins, single and this year twins.
I was planning to retire my herd this year. She gave me two ewe lambs. And I have a beautiful ram lamb who is totally unrelated to my herd. Looks like I will not be quitting.

All done as of 2 days ago. The storm is over. We had over 300 lambs born in 3 weeks. Real glad that is done. We did have 2 hold outs, no bags now. They must have got bred by the clean up ram. On to getting the pastures fixed up. The drill showed up yesterday, it will take today and tomorrow to finish. Fertilizer should be there today. Things are greening up finally.

Finished lambing this morning. This ewe is not too interested in feeding her lambs. Right now we have her tied up and making sure lambs are eating every two hours. What a knot head.
