So surely one way or the other I got closer. lol Well if you were on 65 south, yep you went right by me, I am about 20 mins off 65, Mundfordville exit....

The next time I start a project in the Spring I need someone to reach through the computer and smack some sense into me. I'm at a standstill with the craft room because of the outdoor jobs like the garden and yard. And we decided to put one of those above ground pools up that you buy from Walmart. So I have to keep the garden under control, mow the lawn and now I'm digging out a spot for the pool. Not to mention the normal indoor upkeep/cleaning and planning our homeschool curriculum that we'll start at the end of next month. What was I thinking?! Here's a quick story for y'all. I got started on the pool area last week and of course I had to figure out somewhere to put the dirt. There's an area behind our garage that has been washed out over the years and needs to be built back up so that was the logical spot. I got my first wagon load of dirt and pulled it over there when I realized a 4x8 sheet of plywood had fallen down and was laying flat on the ground. Now, I'm terrified of snakes so I debated on whether or not to touch that board. But if I wanted to work on the pool area I had to pick that board up and lean it back up against the garage. So very carefully I picked it up, but the corner caught a 2x4 that was laying next to it. So now I'm standing there holding up the end of a sheet of plywood trying to figure out how to keep the 2x4 from hitting me in the head when I look down and see snakes. Snakes! Plural. I'm still trying to get the 2x4, hold the plywood and now I'm trying to keep an eye on the snakes. Luckily they went up the hill instead of down the hill towards me! I dropped everything and high-stepped it back into the house - at an accelerated pace. I wouldn't say I was running, but I sure as heck wasn't walking. It's funny now, especially when I think about how I must have looked to the neighbors! LOL Needless to say the dirt from the pool area is now just piled onto a tarp instead of hauled into that area. I'm just gonna keep piling it up until DH hauls it over there.

KyMama , you sound to me that you have planned perfectly. First the basement will still be exactly as you left so you have something to do anytime the weather doesn't cooperate for outdoor stuff. Then you have valiantly upheld the Wife's Code of Honor in the case of the Inadvertant Snake Disturbance. You have sacrificed your value of independence so that your husband is reassured of his importance in the world. Nope. It is clear you are in full control if life. All's as it should be. You will be getting your letter of appreciation from the International Wife Standards Bureau any moment now.

AND that is why you see me in 90 degree weather with my muck boots on, yep I hate snakes and when you have livestock and chores you have to women up sometimes to get the work done when DH's aren't around Just got done healing up a LGD with snake bite last week, nasty boogers they can be, sounds like your plans of leaving dirt for DH will work for you, wish I had those options

It's raining today so I thought I would take a break from housecleaning to get some more done on my room. I've struggled with this ceiling. Since I only have two hands it's hard to hold the board above my head, get the tongue and groove to cooperate and nail it. Not to mention that every single board is warped. The only reason I'm not throwing an absolute fit over that is because they were cheap with DH's employee pricing. Since I don't have any help right now I fixed me up an extra set of ... hands? I think the floor turned out pretty good. I can't remember if I posted pics of the floor. Stupid photobucket for wanting money to link the pics. That's not happening so I'll have to remember to post pics of every part of the room when I get it done. I promise once this ceiling is up I'll get it all cleaned and organized and show y'all some better pics.

Want to know why my craft is still not done? Because of great ideas like "let's put the hot tub in the basement". lol Of course the perfect the spot for the hot tub is unfinished except for the tile floor. This is the area I was using as my workshop so I got it all cleaned out, but now I've got to make it pretty. Because who wants to sit in a hot tub and look at all this mess?! I got the block wall primed yesterday and used all the pine I had left to try and finish the one wall because the plan is to put the hot tub in the left corner at an angle. (This is not a real hot tub, it's an oval inflatable one.) Unfortunately I need at least 4 more boards to finish the wall, but my husband is going to check his inventory and see if they have a couple of boards in stock. Hopefully they have a few so I can get it finished since the hot tub is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I'm going to paint the block today. I really didn't want to have to buy paint for this project so it's going to be the same color as my living room since I had 2/3 gallon leftover. It's green of course. lol I just realized how low that outlet is over on the right. I may have to reroute that or at least raise it higher on the wall. A gfci probably wouldn't be a bad idea either. See the fan in the window? I need to leave that in there to help vent the moist air out of the basement. Any ideas on window treatments that would give us privacy but still allow for air flow? I'd like to do some kind of shutters, but the windows are not very wide - less than 24". Would a pair of shutters look weird? Could I do one shutter on each window or would that look just as bad? Or should I make some curtains? If so, do I make the one with the fan shorter? I guess I could do blinds, but that's boring. Comments like that are why my craft room isn't done!

Now, you know you're going to need some tropical-themed prints or posters to decorate that space with, right ? A fake palm tree in the corner with twinkle lights would be nice, too. Candles ! You really have to have a place for candles ! A fluffy, sand-colored bath rug would be wonderful to step out onto. A tropical paradise to escape to when it's cold and snowy ~sigh~. I'm having way too much fun decorating your space ..lol ! Seriously, about the fans - I don't know of anything you can cover them with, have privacy and air circulation. My only suggestion is to have curtains that cover the fans and leave the fans off while using the tub. If you turn the fans on for awhile after using the tub, would that work ? I can't wait to see it all turns out. Having seen what you can do, I know it's going to be amazing.

I couldn't handle the dust and dirt falling on me so I improvised a temporary ceiling. I used a canvas drop cloth and a few furring strips I had laying around. This area is right under the living room and dining room so every time someone or the dog walks across the floor dust falls down. Can you image what the hot tub would look like after a week or two? As you can see I didn't have enough drop cloth to reach all the way over, but it is square on the edge of the pine wall so it's good enough for now. I'll pick up another drop cloth the next time I go by Lowe's and finish it off. And eventually get the pine ceiling done too, but this area is not a priority for me right now. You'd understand if you could see the rest of the basement! I should have just done this in my craft room. It would be done by now! lol

I can't wait to see it all turns out. Having seen what you can do, I know it's going to be amazing. I actually thought about getting a fake tree for the corner behind the hot tub with twinkle lights! I have some remote control, flameless candles that I'm planning on using in there. And I will have some kind of fluffy rug to step on. But I draw the line on tropical themed prints. I measured every louvered closet door in this house on the slim chance that I could use them to make shutters for the windows! My thought was that they would let the air flow through but give us privacy. Unfortunately even though they are all different sizes none of them are wide enough. I'll probably just end up putting some curtains there. The windows are going to be set in quite a bit by the time I get the pine up so I was thinking of making curtains with pressure rods on the top and bottom. That way I can move the rod up above the fan, but still have the rest of the window covered. And then when we are down there I can drop it back down over the whole window. The reason I want it this way is so that I can have the fan on a timer throughout the day to suck the humidity out. Does that make sense?

What about venetian blinds. I like them as they allow air flow but can be not only raised and lowered, shut or open but, with a flick of the finger over the slats, some slats can be closed while others remain open.

I have always liked bare branches with lights as decoration and ambience. Kind of goes with the natural theme and can be free for the cutting.

here to stay , I'll probably end up with blinds for the exact reason you stated. We are definitely on the same brain wave for decorating this space. I was just looking on Pinterest at decor using branches! I'm hoping there will be room to leave that tv cart in there so I can use it to hide the chemicals and filters in the bottom. I was thinking of rolling some towels and placing them in the space above the doors, and leaving the top for candles or other decoration. I bought this bear hook on a whim one day a couple of months ago - I think it would be perfect for our robes to hang on. If I have room for it. I really wish the UPS man would hurry up!

For the window, think about waffle shades. We used them throughout the house.

Well, it looks like I did all that for nothing. We went off the measurements online and they apparently don't include the pump in the width. Which means I can't fit the thing in there no matter how hard I try. I've spent over an hour rearranging it and there is just no way to make it work. So now I guess I have to clean out another part of the basement or just put it back on the deck. I really don't want it on the deck because I just bought a table the other day so that I can actually sit out there and enjoy the evenings. Not to mention we can't use it once it the temperatures cool off because the little heater can't keep it warm. It's hard to tell in the picture but the pump is sitting at the end of the wall. Right there is under the stairs so I guess I could move everything further out. But that means the rest of this area would be unreachable, at least I think it would be since I haven't tried it yet. Not to mention that I took this pic standing right up against a fridge to my right. Pretty sure something is going to be in the way no matter what I do!

would a longer pump hose allow you to move it to the end of tub then put the tub against the wall with the pump at the end?

Post by KyMama on Sept 27, 2017 21:23:45 GMT
here to stay, I tried looking for hoses, but I'm not sure what I need so obviously I couldn't find it. However, I may be a little stubborn so I refused to give up. I went back down there and took the fridge's doors off and shoved it outside. Okay, honestly it may have been more sweating and pushing and pulling but I did get it outside. I slid the pump back into the area under the stairs and everything fits. It's not where I wanted it, but at least it's in there. My OCD wants it in that room, but I'll just have to figure out another way to balance it out. There's just enough room between the spa and the window wall that I can fit between them to get to the other end of the room. I moved the surprisingly heavy tv cart to that side and I should have enough room to add a chair in the corner. That way when I get out of the hot tub first, like I always do, I'll have somewhere to sit while I talk to my husband. Or we may end up putting two chairs down there and I might have to exchange the cart for something smaller. Either way, there's plenty of room. I'll need to finish a little more than I planned on to make it relaxing but I planned on doing the whole basement eventually anyway so it's not that big of a deal. The one thing that's going to bother me is that it's right on the edge of the living room. That room is huge and I don't want to feel like we're out there. The reason I wanted it in this area was because it was smaller (too small apparently) and it felt more private. I don't know if that makes sense, but I don't know how to explain it. Easiest, cheapest and quickest way to close it in will be to add a curtain so when I get the energy to go back down there I'll look and see if that will work. Or I might move the bookcases over and use them to create a wall. They're currently separating the living room and what used to be my craft area so I know that'll work too.

I thought this was so supposed to be my place for relaxation?! My DH came home and he doesn't like the way it is. I don't like it either, but it was the only way I could get it to fit. So before we fill it with water we're going to try and find some hoses and/or fittings that will enable us to move the pump to the side. Stay tuned...

I was just looking back over this thread and realized that my craft room is still not finished. lol Every time I think I'm going to get to work on it something else needs to be done. My oldest son is in the Army and stationed overseas. Well, he called one day last year to let us know that he was getting married, and they may need somewhere to live when he gets out of the military. I have no problem with them staying here for a bit, but I will not share my living space so that stepped up the redo of the basement. In my last post you can see that lovely relaxation spot I created. Well, DH hated being stuck inside when he was in the spa so that got moved back up on the deck and I re-purposed the area. I was already thinking of making it a snack station when we get the theater room finished down there so it wasn't too much more work to go ahead and turn it into a kitchenette of sorts. I built the "cabinets" out of 2x4's and used some of the extra pine wall boards to make the shelves. Then I painted it with some leftover paint I had from when I painted the shutters. The countertop is glued edge boards that I sanded and oiled. I already had one and since I was being cheap it seemed like the way to go since I only had to buy another one instead of an actual countertop. I think we spent about $75 total between the 2x4's and the countertop board so not too bad. The sink and faucet I got from Amazon for a little over $100. I could have went cheaper, but I liked the look too much. The mini fridge was in the garage not being used so no money there. And I built the plate rack for less than $20 instead of having wall cabinets or shelves. Comparing it the picture of when it was my relaxation spot you'll see that I finally got the ceiling done and a new light. I didn't want to try and run electric there so I wired a ceiling light to plug in and ran it over to an outlet. The outlet has remote controlled plug on it and it came with a wall switch so it works just like a regular hardwired light would. I'm still trying to find the best way to tack the cord up so that it's not as visible though. I think the light was around $50. And of course, as soon as I finished it DH decided that he doesn't want the tile down there anymore. We bought the same vinyl floor that's in my craft room I've just got to remove all those tiles and replace it. It's on the to do list. I don't think it looks too shabby for around $250 total, not counting the floor.
