I have been doing little else (fiber-wise) besides working on this Fiber Retreat so here ya go. This weekend was my Guild's annual "End of Winter" fiber retreat, but in a new venue. We had seriously outgrown our old one and this year, we rented Camp Bliss, a lodge situated between two lakes about an hour north of here in Walker, Mn. We have 34 overnight campers and 7 day campers attend. I was one of the three -person committee. Here are some photos of our doin's. This is the Great Spinning Circle. (That is me standing on the bottom left. ) I was busy, but not too busy to take photos now and again. I took photos of tattoos... And the adorable flowers we wove on mini looms, Weave Its, or Zoom Looms... I took photos of our talk by Keila McCracken, design activist and anthropologist, our keynote speaker. We learned about the true cost of cheap, disposable fashion on the environment and on women around the world. We learned about what a local fibershed is and how we can all play a role in it. We learned about sustainable wardrobes and concepts like Sashiko and Boro mending. And we learned how to needle-felt these cute sheep face pins. There wasn't a bad view in the place and after Thursday's snow melted, it was glorious. Here are a few of us beginning to work on a Fiber Sandwich project. Thats me in the back, on the right. If you ever get a chance to go to a fiber retreat, do it. Immerse yourself IN your art and see what happens! If you are not a part of a Guild or can't find one near enough, start your own, that's what we did. ♥

When is the next one? Can I come? Next April. The registration opens to our Fiber Guild members first, and then we open it nonGuild members. I will definitely keep you advised! But don't forget to look locally for a Guild! I would love for you to come!

But don't forget to look locally for a Guild! I would love for you to come! I so wanted to come but never found a website or how to register. 😪 Our "local" yarn store closed last year. I went to some of their classes which were fun. There is a guild down in KC, which is quite large, however, I have met some people from that guild and I was not impressed. Not too friendly/helpful and snobbish. Guess I am destined to continue alone.

I so wanted to come but never found a website or how to register. 😪 oh, no, BILLIE! I knew you mentioned coming early on, but then it sounded like things were falling apart left and right and getting in the way, so I didn't mention the registration. I am sooooooooooooooo sorry. I would have LOVED for you to come. There is no website, but our Guild has an active Facebook page. I will send you an invite, you join, and you'll never miss another thing. You will have to "ask" to join, I approve you, then you're in! Tell me again what your nearest larger city is and I will look for a Guild in your area to hook you up with!

Wind in Her Hair, thanks, I just saw the e-mail about the invite to your guild. I will go there next!! Yep, things falling apart right and left every day, however, I am not letting it get to me and plan to still do things for me. Next month is my trip with our Living History group, which will be 4 days. They will figure it out (or not!). Already told my daughter we are, probably, headed to Branson for a week this fall. Bill's sister and her hubby want to come up from TX and their brother and his wife in Utah want to try and come. We want to try and have some mini vacations together in the next few years.

Billie, yes ma'am. Time marches on and you owe it to yourself to treat yourself a little. I like your attitude! You are how far from Kansas City?

Wind in Her Hair, how far to KC depends on where I go. They have a fiber guild and a weavers guild which are together in the same guild. I know where they meet, which is only a few blocks from where I went for all my cancer stuff. That is a 90 minute drive (one way) and it is actually located in Kansas not Missouri. (2 KC's, KS & MO). They meet in the evenings, which would have me getting home around 11pm. I have a hard time driving at night and only do it if necessary. Small world: one of the contacts lives a mile from my dad, on the same road my daughter's old high school boyfriend grew up on. Small dead end road. The only group in the town north of me (30 minutes) just informally meets at the mall (at night) and everyone just does their own thing. Not an organized guild. I've met some of those ladies, too. We do have a little shop in our town that carries yarn, beads, laces/trims, small bits of roving and felting supplies. I think she has mentioned that she will do classes but not sure what kind of classes. Next time I see her I will ask. (She has some odd hours). I have some felting supplies and would like to try learning that. She has a beautiful scarf hanging on the wall that is made out of bits and pieces of laces/trims, colorful roving and odd bits of things. You put it all between a sticky dissolvable interfacing and sew it down. Put it in water to dissolve and voilà!!! That is on my to do list to try. If we were still in Colorado, not a problem. Bill and I were very involved in the art community there and I took several classes there (making pine needle baskets and painting/bleaching fabrics with found objects, etc. But here, it has just been a slower process finding/meeting people in the art community. No worries, things will work out.
