Tessie is eating grass! It's not cut sharp but she is gumming it in. And some pretty short stuff too. Hooray for her!

That's great! Where there's a will, there's a way. I'll bet she just feels better.

I admit I was scared that I had done the wrong thing and did her out of her retirement. The local vet had said no. The information I got was off the internet- very scary to rely soley on the internet.
At some point I decided to stop dithering and do it. I refused to think on it further and directed all my attention to how to get it done. But making a choice for an animal who can't really tell you what they want is a serious undertaking.
I was relieved when I got the first indication that it had been a problem for her when she stopped the pasture pacing after the surgery. Now the fact she figured out how to eat grass... well, I'm so grateful. I would have been so guilt ridden if it went south as I went against vet advice in the first place and it would have been all on me for making the decision.

What a good girl I have. The healing is filling in the holes on the tops quite nicely. They just need a cleansing squirt or two of water.
The lowers are being slower to fill in and still need quite a bit of cleaning to get debris out. Today one grass seed was quite lodged in one. I eventually had to get out my small forceps to grab the awls. I was pleasantly surprised she let me do it as I couidn't help bumping her gums with the metal.
She's such a forgiving soul.
