I made this pin cushion for my Aunt Jean back in 1998. She was proud of it and showed it to many of her friends with pride . It sat on her dresser and was used often until she went home to Glory on March 10th .. At the after service family gathering on March 12th her daughter brought it to me and said she thought my Aunt would want me to have it back and that she would want me to use it and think of her when I did .. This is with a Pepsi can for size comparison

Oh, I am so sorry your aunt passed. How lovely that your cousin thought of you, and returned the memory to its originator

How great that she even knew the pincushion was from you.

I started out with a smallish clay pot .. and painted it a flesh color and painted on the face after the flesh coat dried.. I stuffed it with some small pebbles to help keep it upright and some torn hose and then a layer of cotton quilt batting. I used hot glue on everything and it has held up very well all these years . I then added a layer of material I had laying around my craft room. The trims are just different sewing bindings and trims I had in my sewing box at the time ... I glued a doily to the bottom and added a necklace of pearl chain around the bottom (which had come off in the picture) and added the ribbon rose and bow and some pins in the top so she would know (and remember since she was beginning to forget things) that it was a pincushion ..
The next year I sold about 25 of them at work for Mothers Day for $15 each for that size and $25 for the next size up ..and could have sold more but ran out of time before Mothers Day . I had everything on hand in my craft room so my cost was nothing but time back then ..I was recovering from surgeries and needed to keep busy .

Thank you, aftermidnite ! I appreciate you taking the time to write up and share the directions for your pincushion. I'm hoping to make one for myself, and gifts for my sisters !

Aw, love the pin cushion but love the story more. May have to try that but either way -- what a lovely memory you've shared with us.

grannyg, adorable yet easy. I wonder about making a Nutcracker Christmas tree using these mice gor ornaments. Albeit the Nutcracker mice were evil, which these certainly are not.
