After a week of rain (nothing like what Texas/Oklahoma got, this was just 3 inches over the course of 5 days) that put us from dry to above normal precipitation for the month, cooler and drier air is moving in. Way too cool though - freeze warnings tonight. I'd like the warmer weather back, please! We are to be in the mid-30s for 3 nights. I think I need to use sheets to cover peppers and tomatoes? Our actual temp is supposed to be around 30 degrees tonight and since we're under a freeze warning, I'll be covering my tomato plants to be on the safe side. It's only 49 degrees out right now (that is so WRONG for late May) and I suspect it WILL get below freezing up here. Pretty sure you're a good bit further south than I am - do you have freeze warnings or frost advisories up?

What do you cover with? I am planning to use old King size sheets, supported by those metal green posts you hang fences upon. Waiting for rain to be done so the sheets won't get so heavy and collapse on the plants. I am in Central WI north of the Dells.

Looks like we'll finish out the month with 21.01 inches for the month of May. We got the last .04 this morning. Now it's blue skies, soaring humidity and 82 degrees. No real rain in the forecast.

Solargeek, I use old king size sheets, too. Where I used to live in southern WI, I don't remember ever having to cover plants in spring - just in mid to late October to extend the growing season. One year I had so many sheets draped over big tomato cages that it looked like I had a flock of ghosts in my garden. It helped that it was in late October - looked like I went all out decorating for Halloween!

We had frost this morning. I'm glad I've been to busy to set out pepper and tomato plants. Usually it's safe after the first week of June.

It was hot last week, now it is cool and in the low 50s. Most of the garden is planted. A ground hog or rabbit have eaten the tops off my peppers. I keep bugging Dh to get fencing around the garden. I would sprinkle hot pepper on the plants but it has been raining for days.

We are getting some much needed rain here in NE Washington. Had thunderstorms sat, sun, mon. But the hailstorm on sat did some damage in the garden. The spinach was shredded, lost stalks on potato and tomato plants. Give the garden a few days to recover and see what needs replanting.

Our temperature has gone up 10 degrees in 55 minutes, from 6 to 7am. It's 70 now, it's going to be a hot day! We don't need this heat. With a low snow pack and lack of spring rain, the fire season may be a bad one.

May brought 13 plus inches of rain here. Garden planting and row crops were hard to get in. It is now the first week in June and the coolness the rain brought has turned HOT. Morning temps in the 70's and rising to the 90's in the afternoon. Humidity from all the moisture in the ground is worse than a sauna.

Right on cue, Memorial Day weekend brought the return of steamy days, afternoon thunder and lightning storms, with temps in the 90s. UGH!! I make my way out to the animals by 6:00am, then by 7:00am I'm playing in the dirt . All outside chores are completed before 10:00am and I'm getting showered and dressed for whatever happens next. This last week has given us some very interesting sights and sounds from Mother Nature. I pray for those who've suffered great losses of family and property. In His Love Mich

Very humid and hot here in Ohio. My garden is happy though! Zucchini has fruit already, flowers on my cucumbers and tomatoes, and "the corn looks fantastic"-quote from my 8 year old, he wants to be a farmer when he grows up :-) He also is already talking about the "good country girl" that will be his wife. Ayyieeee! So soon? At least he has plans ;-)
