So pretty, I love rocks. I spent both of our 2 week stays at the beach near Yachats Oregon picking up agates this summer. Some shells but was more picky because I already have so many. I found some beautiful agates. I really like the honey colored ones but found other shades too. Some almost smooth enough to be gem quality. Some raw and many in between. I probably have 4 gallons of them now. I enjoy looking at rocks on our travels but don't bring many home, most of the time. Gives me something to do, talk about and share. So many people just walk right over agates but are interested when you show them your finds. I enjoy sharing with people who can't get out and about, especially at the beach. Older people that come for the scenery but can't get down to the oceans edge. Or the kids that "never knew" there are such a thing....James

I just loaded up my Lortone QT-6 with this... I'm really really really looking forward to seeing how they turn out - I'm a glass nut and have never tumbled glass. The initial grind is for 4-5 days in 120/220 grit. ~Mari Ok - I must admit that I kind of freaked out just a tad when I opened this after 5 days. I've never done this before so I followed instructions off of the net. I'm thinking the next time - I will check them at 3 days - and will probably stop at that. Mamma mia - it was amazing how much had been ground away! Some of them are now in a 3lb barrel with 500 grit and small ceramic media for 4 days. ~Mari

Well, folks, I finally got a tumbler going again after all of this time! Seems like this is more of a winter hobby for me - which I indeed need to change... A little over a week ago I filled up my 6lb Lortone rotary tumbler with some Fancy Jasper in the rough. Here's a pic of it after the initial grind... I must say I am enjoying hearing the faint sound of a tumbler going once again down in the basement... Today, I divided up the above Jaspers and filled both barrels with them on one of my Lortone Model 33B tumblers for the second grind in 120/220 grit. A very kind member pm'd me in regards to this dude's YouTube channel... www.youtube.com/user/jugglerguy1It is indeed very interesting! Now, I've got the hankering to try my hand at tumbling some Puddingstone - but will have to do a bit of research as far as tumbling it in a rotary tumbler since it's not a really hard stone... I just may call Shawn at the Rock Shed tomorrow to ask his advice. ~Mari I have now got the above Jaspers in 500 grit for the next seven days. Pics of when I cleaned them before placing them back in their barrels... I just love tumbling Fancy Jasper - soooo easy peasy!! ~Mari

They are beautiful...such awesome designs and colors!!!! Boy, they are - aren't they? I'm really really having such fun getting back into this. Since my biggest tumbler is free now - I loaded up the barrel with some more Serape Jasper for the initial grind. Of course, I did spray them down (as I usually do) to showcase the colors better. Sometime I should take a pic of what they look like coming right out of the bag. ~Mari

Dry... Wet...~Mari

I finished up with the Kambaba Jasper and Desert Jasper... I also finished up with the glass. I followed the directions but there seems to be a bit of a learning curve - at least for me that is. There were several that had gotten chipped and a lot of them were cloudy/dull around the edges. But, other than that, they look pretty good. I'm wondering if I should have put in plastic pellets during the last three stages? I think I'll try that the next time I do them and see what happens. Taken without flash... Taken with flash...Hmmmm... Now I have to contemplate what to do next since I have all three tumblers/five barrels empty - decisions decisions! ~Mari

Oh, cool, my eleven-year-old son got a rock tumbler from his grandparents for Christmas. He hasn't got it running yet, needs more parental financing to buy grit, but he's got oh, fifty pounds or so of agate and jasper we picked up last fall to put through it when we get it going.
