Everytime I read this thread, I think of making these for me. Dh would probably cry if I made them for him. Or he might try to kill me in many ways. I'd recommend trying them. We had more guests this week (shocking, I know) and one of them was adventurous enough to say "let's do it!" when I mentioned carrot hot dogs. We used the link Cabin Fever provided in this thread. Did our husbands think we'd gone off the deep end? Well, they kind of always think that, but since we had no intention of force-feeding them carrot dogs they had nothing to fear. We both liked the carrot dogs quite a bit and will make them again. And we're both curious to see what our grandchildren think of them.

I'd recommend trying them. We had more guests this week (shocking, I know) and one of them was adventurous enough to say "let's do it!" when I mentioned carrot hot dogs. We used the link Cabin Fever provided in this thread. When I first stopped eating meat, he was eating pizza and I took a piece and took the meat off. He almost started to cry because he felt so bad for me (except I wasn't feeling bad for me). I've never been a fan of hotdogs, so I'm pretty sure I'd like the carrot dogs.

Some specific foods have been mentioned here. Where do you buy them? Trader Joe's/Whole Foods? Every item we mentioned you should be able to find in most, if not all, grocery stores. We did mention hummus, which is also available in every grocery store that we we shop at, however, we make it ourselves. The only thing that we've ordered online is the hibiscus tea. Everything else is available at our grocery store. Were there specific items you were wondering about?

Was wondering about vegan Worchester sauce.

Was wondering about vegan Worchester sauce. Yeah, we don't sweat the small stuff. We use regular everyday Worchester sauce. I think the only difference between regular and vegan is that the regular contains a small amount of anchovies. The cheaper brands of regular Worchester sauce probably don't even contain anchovies.

I know this is an old thread but I had to find it because......I'm using this recipe for carrot dogs for a surprise for mr feather tomorrow. He's become much more adventurous in trying new things since his taste buds changed, to the better. www.veginspired.com/carrot-dogs/ I'm marinating them until tomorrow afternoon. The marinade smells and tastes just like hot dogs. I have some homemade carrot/cabbage low salt sauerkraut I had made, some sweet pickle relish (from before we went no salt or sugar), ketchup I made low sugar, yellow mustard, but I'm still pretty convinced combining all these flavors with the carrot dogs will be very good. I'm going to steam some sliced ww bread for buns. Keep it a secret until tomorrow afternoon, will ya?

We give it a 3/10 but longer marinating might be what we need to do so we are going to let the rest of them stay in the marinade.
I steamed the sliced ww bread in the steamer, so they were soft enough to fold into a bun shape, two of them into a container just the right width. Cooked the carrot dogs again, placed them in the 'buns', topped with kraut, relish, yellow mustard, and ketchup.
We're going to try it again in a couple days.

Does anybody see the irony of attempting to recreate the taste of what is considered probably the least nutritious, most chemical-laden excuse for a food-like substance? Pretty soon you'll be trying to make a vegan CheezWhiz!

snoozy, no doubt lots of irony there, especially for hot dog fans (sadly I'm not one.) It brings back memories from childhood and baseball games. There's so much irony in hospitals, where you'd expect to get healthy food. The heart disease wing of hospitals serve hamburgers, hot dogs, sour cream, butter, whatever you like, and some of them even have mc donald's being sold downstairs. Even though we know the fat clogs the arteries, we just keep feeding it to the sick people. And these are hospitals treating people for fat clogging arterial disease. There's so many more ironies to be told. During the meat shortage, vegans want to know, where will carnivores get their protein?

Pretty soon you'll be trying to make a vegan CheezWhiz! Guilty as charged. Me make our Cheese Whiz with blended cashews, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, and spices.

I read through the recipe you used and it seemed like a lot of putzin' around....steaming, marinating, etc. Try the carrot dog recipe in the link below, it takes about 30 minutes and every one loves them. passtheplants.com/easy-carrot-dogs/

I'll give that a try. I'm especially a fan of carrot whittling. I think they taste better when I'm hungrier. The hungrier I am the better they taste!
I like your cashew cheese sauce. I've been tossing around the idea of adding a couple nuts once in a while but haven't done that one yet. We mostly use the carrot potato cheese sauce recipe.

If you make them with those little bagged up baby carrots, you can call them Vienna sausages.
