In July when we bought the property:
With its new roof and snazzy paint job (plus less vegetation and more MUD!)
So happy with the way it turned out! It was worth all of the hard work (especially because Numb did most of it!)

Thanks everybody! It's a well-built barn; it just needed a little facelift! I don't think it had ever been painted since the original coat, and the old shingled roof was leaking badly. It should serve the cows well for many more years now. Painting those doors nearly drove me nuts though!

What a nice job! Were you the one painting the white, all the detail & cutting in? That’s tedious work! Great job & happy cows🐄

NO! No rentals! He is mine, all mine! Numb did the trim on the gable ends (I'm scared of heights!) and painted a lot of the red. I did the doors and yeah, they were tedious! Especially because I decided to paint the insides, too, so the barn would look nice when the doors were pinned open. (We leave the set on the left end open all the time for the cows to go in and out; the middle stall is our sawdust bedding bin and the one on the right serves as our tool room. We don't lock the cows into stalls, of course; they sleep in the biggest box stall on the left end and in the open 11"x36" area beyond the stalls. (Numb calls it "the longhouse.") The back side of the barn has a 2' gap along the top of the wall for ventilation in the summer (we have a bank of fans tied to the ceiling to blow in cool air from under the eaves). In the wintertime, there are corrugated plastic panels that fit into the gap to let the light in while blocking the wind. There are also ventilation panels in the front and sides of the stalls. Someone obviously put a lot of thought into how this barn was set up!

Lovely job. I so much like a metal roof. We put one on our retirement home.
I didn't lock my livestock in either.
Are the cows impressed?

Nice job! I so love it when people take before and after photos. I always forget to. Now when you start to feel like you aren't getting anything accomplished, you can look back and see just how far you've come! I like tin roofs so much that I'm thinking of putting one on my chicken coop since the old shakes have seen better days.
If you ever change your mind about renting Numb out be sure and let us know!

I was torn between a galvanized tin roof and a white painted one, but finally went with the latter as I felt it would keep the barn cooler in summer. I followed by boss' recommendation to get a Galvalume finish under the white paint as he said it would make it more impervious to scratches and rusting. We are already so freaking old, we figure that roof should last the rest of our lives!

Look at that. I learned something new. Can't wait for hubby to get home so I can tell him. And when he says I'm wrong (and he will), I'm going to show him this thread! Thanks feather!
