Who is ready to do some sewing this winter? You do not have to be a quilter, per se, to participate. Anyone who sews--or wants to give it a try--is welcome to join in. Here is how our forum quilts have traditionally worked: To each person who signs up, I will send a 12" square of fabric. Using that fabric, plus any other fabrics you like, you will sew a quilt block of any pattern you desire, as long as it finishes at 12.5 inches square. Please wash and dry all fabrics you use (forum fabric has all ready been prewashed), but please do not use fabric softener.
Mail your block back to me by March 30th to be eligible for the drawing. Please make sure to put enough postage on it, and allow a week for delivery. For each block received by the deadline, I will enter the name of the member who created it into the drawing, and then draw a winner at random on Sunday, March 31st. The winning name will be posted on this thread that evening.
The person whose name is drawn will receive all the blocks. The winner is responsible for supplying (either purchase or use stash fabric) four yards of fabric for the next forum quilt and must mail me that fabric. Once the new fabric has been received, I will send the winner all of the blocks created, plus an extra yard of the forum fabric to use in finishing their quilt.
If you would like to participate, please respond on this thread and PM me your mailing address so that I can get the fabric to you. There is a lot of fabric available, so if you would like to make two blocks, let me know and I will send you two pieces to work with. (If you are on the fence about whether or not to try creating a block, Quilt Blocks Galore is a great place to find lots of patterns for blocks that finish at 12.5"; they are FREE, ranked by difficulty, and all have easy to follow directions.)

I will join in. If we don't get many people maybe each person could get two squares of fabric and make two blocks?

I will join in. If we don't get many people maybe each person could get two squares of fabric and make two blocks? There are 24 pieces of fabric available. So, unless there is a huge number of people who sign up, each person who would like to can make two blocks.

Please include me. I'll do two blocks (she says with more confidence than skill I've never put a quilt top together, so I'd prefer not to be entered into the drawing to do that next step. I would, however, be willing to supply fabric for the next quilt, if you want to split up those elements.

If I join, could I ask that I *not* be added to the drawing? I know if I was to win them, they will just sit in my craft room taunting me!

I can put the top together if mzgarden or katievt wins it.
I will make a block, possibly two, if necessary.

I am not going to be part of this but I would like to tell you it will be so great. Last Summer I was given a quilt that my great grandmother sewed the blocks for, my grandmother put the top together, My mother as a young girl quilted it and a very young aunt of mine quilted one small area. Mom showed me the part Aunt Dot did. I will take it to our next family reunion for all of my cousins to see it.

This sounds like so much fun! Alas, despite the other types of handwork I do, I am not a sewer ... my husbands machines do not like me, not one tiny bit.
I am excited to see the different quilt pieces though!

Does it look like we will have enough people to get this done? Did you get my address?

So far, we have 8 people, including myself, signed up to participate in this quilt: 1. Melissa, 2. mzgarden, 3. katievt, 4. Maura, 5. calicokatie1, 6. pauline, 7. @ljsunflower, 8. krisinmi, Actually, there is an unofficial 9th; Billie was the winner of the last quilt, and when she mailed me the fabric for this one she went ahead and made and sent along a finished block. Since she was the winner of the previous quilt, and according to her wishes, she will not be in the drawing for this one. I have addresses for mzgarden, katievt, calicokatie1, pauline, and ljsunflower. I would like to start mailing fabric on Tuesday (since I'm not sure if I'll need extra postage for those envelopes containing 2 pieces of fabric, I will need to go to the post office to have them weighed). If you haven't yet messaged me your current address, please do so ASAP. I will plan to mail each person who indicated they could possibly make 2 blocks two pieces of fabric. If you only have time to make one, that's fine, just please send the second piece back to me along with your finished block so that the winner can have all the unused fabric. There is still time and fabric available for more people to sign up! Lurkers, don't be shy, join us

When I mailed out the fabric for the forum quilt most people would send a dollar when they sent their block back. It helped with the shipping and sending the blocks to the winner.

Kris is correct, I don't want to be in the drawings. Over the years I have won the blocks 3 times! Twice more than necessary. Just gives an extra chance to someone who has never won. I don't even remember what fabric I sent or what block I made!!
If you need another block made to make it even or something send me a piece and I will make another one.

Fabric is on it's way! Everyone signed up so far can expect something enjoyable in the mailbox later this week.
There are still some pieces of fabric left if anyone else wants to sew along with us.

Ok, you can sign me up. Just so I am clear - I'll receive a 12" square and I provide any other patterns or colors to go with it? I put on the filler and the back fabric and then quilt it? Ok to machine quilt the finished square?

Cindy in NY, You don't add any filler or quilting. You just make the block using the fabric you receive and any other fabric you like. Then the winner can put the blocks together and quilt them.

Cindy in NY, like Melissa said, all you need to make is the 'top' of the block, no sandwiching or actual quilting required. Quick, easy, and fun. Send me your address and I'll get the fabric mailed out to you.

My fabric got here today! Yay! The envelope looked like it had been run over or something but the fabric didn't get damaged or dirty. Ya just never know what happens at the post office.

I've looked and looked at this fabric but haven't been inspired yet! I'll get after it again in a little while.
