Let Momma do her job, unless, there is some reason otherwise. Best if Momma has a place of her own away from others....James

@jwal10, Thanks! This is our fifth year raising chickens. But our first year letting Mama do it, we've always used an incubator.

I have raised them both ways. I prefer for the hen to raise them. If you have turkeys you pretty near need an incubator. Turkeys are not the best Mothers. But all hens are not good Mother’s either!

Isn't that fun! We've got a broody that's been sitting 14 days so far. Unfortunately she picked a nesting box that is on the top row of our 'egg hotel' so it's 24" off the ground. When she's at about day 19, we will pick up her nesting box with her in it and move it to a safer place on the ground but away from the other birds so we don't have chicks falling out. Hopefully, she'll take the move ok.

I've had some broody hens that did a very fine job of raising chicks. Boy, it sure does make your life a lot easier! We always kept ours separated as well. I thoroughly enjoyed your video @thewolf, I have toyed around with the idea of getting an incubator but alas, I haven't splurged yet. I hope that someday I have another broody momma that will do the job for me. ~Mari
