Could not have happened at a better time as we just used our last jar of canned ham. Our Aldi store put spiral sliced ham on sale for 85 cent per pound. .I am going to be busy today restocking the pantry

I'm intrigued. Whatcha do with canned ham? Is like spam? How do you can it? Nothing like spam at all, it's like chopped ham that you would use in any situation that requires chopped ham, we get the spiral cut as it works bet for us, we can in pints, 10 lbs pressure for 75 minutes

You can buy canned ham farm5.staticflickr.com/4028/4247087933_8dc8525186.jpg....er whatever it is. I see it on sale for $1.99 a can. Looks OK, but just what is it? We can ham because we don't have a lot of freezer space. We get our hams sliced into thick steaks, as they freeze flat. We like the bone in when we freeze it. When canning I don't want any fat ON it. Open jar and warm in oven, tastes just like fresh cooked ham. A little jar, liquid and all, can of beans, onion, brown sugar, ketchup and a little yellow mustard. MM MMMM....James

Well, I'm feeling like an uncultured swine. LOL! I don't recall ever having canned ham.
I've got hams we raised in the freezer. Kinda like the idea of canning it in bbq sauce for quick hot sandwiches. Navy bean soup isn't quite the same without ham either. Call me a lemming...I think I'll be canning some ham this week too.😁

I would can ham plain, putting in sauce changes flavors, may not like, then causes waste. Also plain can be used in anything. Takes only minutes to add as it heats....James

Ten busy bees, guess I didn't hear you knock on the door. A 8.43pounds ham gave us 7 pints ham after I trimmed some fat off and a ham bone that would make 2 meals. But dw wants one meal of beans and ham

And yes we canned ham in water. We don't can with salt included.

Sweetie has canned cubed ham several times. A small coat of oil in the bottom of the big cast iron fry pan, brown cubes on all sides for just 2-3 minutes, makes a big difference in flavors when it comes out of the jar.
Trick I want to try is to have about a half teaspoon of good maple syrup in pan as the cubes brown..
Otherwise, like said, canned the simpler the better. Flavor as you wish at time of use..

wally, I don't how you could have missed us. With all my little bees in tow quiet is one thing we are not. Eight meals from one ham, not bad.👍 I'm getting the hams out to thaw and jar up. No added salt: check. Makes sense. Sounds simple enough too. Love having meat on the shelf, can't believe it never occurred to me to can ham. Thanks for the tip to fry a bit too, Tim.

Patience, my dear. It's not even finished thawing yet. That's gonna be one of tomorrow's projects.
