That pic of Sterling cuddled up in your arm is really touching Mari...I had no clue a rabbit would use a litter box, how cool is that? She or He was meant to be yours

Mari-in-IN, how is the bunny doing? Awwww, thanks for asking! Well, we have made a few changes around here. I previously had Sterling in a spare bedroom in a large dog crate. But, since I started seedlings and whatnot, and didn't want his little bunny eyes fried by my super duper grow light, I moved him/his crate into the storage room of our biggest coop. We "repurposed" a containment area for him out on the grass at the coops so I take him out there pretty much everyday - unless the weather is totally "yech". We move it around every couple of days so he has fresh clover - which seems to be his fave. We do have plans to extend onto the below by the way - so he can kick up his heels even more - it is soooo much fun watching him run and jump around! But even more endearing when he stretches out on the grass with squinty eyes... We have a routine now - which is just grand. The critter crate to the left in the above pic is what I use to transport him back and forth. He is very good about jumping into it when it is "time to go". Oh, and it is sooo cute - he will run around on the grass and just dive into his little crate - guess it makes him feel safe. He gets really active and acts like he is "playing" whenever the cats and the chickens visit him. He probably needs companionship but honestly, I have enough work as it is and really never planned on having a rabbit - ya know? We just endeavor to give him the best life we can at this time. Oh, and one really strange thing as of late. When he was in the house - in his large dog crate - he used his "litter box" for "both". Now, since I take him out of doors, I have been placing his "litter box" out in his area. He doesn't use it out of doors. He will do some "poos" out of doors on the grass. But, the crazy thing is - when I get him back into his big dog crate in the storage room - he does not waste anytime going into the back right corner of it and taking a "wee". I swear, I sometimes wonder if he is holding it during the day? Any thoughts? Yeah, not to mention, Mari here will be cleaning out that crate here soon! ETA - Should have mentioned that the dog crate is layered with straw/the hay he doesn't eat/aspen shavings.

Great job! I think he may be marking his territory.

Well, looks like Sterling's four rabbit's feet have been lucky for him falling into your care. He looks very happy and healthy.
Most of the folks I've known who use portable runs put wire mesh--not as fine as hardware cloth or chicken wire--on the bottom of theirs to be sure the rabbits don't burrow out.

We have very big hearts when it comes to our animals. I've not seen him do any digging so far. I am usually out here multiple times a day checking on him and the chickens and he spends the night in his dog crate in the storage area of the coop. So, hopefully, he won't do any digging during the day.

My husband moved his outdoor pen this AM - first time Sterling has had some taller grass at his disposal. He's given us a few good chuckles today. ~Mari

Well, blow me down!! Went out this afternoon to check on Sterling and what did I see? A big surprise indeed! Yep, you warned me mogal, but I didn't see this happening since he hadn't done anything like this prior... As of late we have seen a lot of wild bunnies in our area. I do wonder if there are indeed some bunny pheromones wafting about that perhaps "contributed" to his actions?

Is Sterling still in the cage or back if he left? European rabbits (our domestic rabbits) dig extensive underground warrens with multiple entrances.

Hey Woodpecker , stickinthemud , Actually, Sterling didn't dig far enough to actually get out - thank goodness. I found the scene in the previous pic I posted at around 7:40pm last evening and went ahead and took him into the storage area for the night. I got in is pen and took this pic this AM to further show how far he got/didn't get. Just cannot get quite a pic to really show it well. Suffice it to say - he didn't get beyond the perimeter of the bottom boards of his pen. Now I gotta figure out exactly what to get for the bottom of his containment area. As if I don't have enough to do already! ~Mari ETA - I must say that I really wish I could have seen him in action.

Chicken wire fencing works, but so does chain link fencing. The grass grows up through it. You could lay it along the perimeter, or use a large piece or two for the entire area. You would just need to relay it each time you move the prison, er, apartment.
