This was an article in yesterday's Houston Chronicle. The article concludes, "Kristen Monsell, an attorney for the Center for Biological Diversity, called the survey “heartbreaking news for a species already struggling to survive.” She said it's more evidence why the Trump administration authorization of oil and gas activity in Cook Inlet, including seismic airgun blasting, is so reckless." www.chron.com/news/us/article/Survey-Alaska-s-Cook-Inlet-beluga-whales-15011313.phpMainstream mediasts when presented with a problem search for causes until they find a blame Trump reason and then they move on.

Here is more information regarding the Alaskan Cook's Inlet beluga whale decline. "Killer whales and polar bears prey on beluga whale adults and calves." seaworld.org/animals/all-about/beluga-whales/longevity/"Killer whale predation on belugas in Cook Inlet, Alaska, has become a concern since the decline of these belugas was documented during the 1990s. Accordingly, killer whale sightings were compiled from systematic surveys, observer databases, and anecdotal accounts. Killer whales have been relatively common in lower Cook Inlet (at least 100 sightings from 1975 to 2002), but in the upper Inlet, north of Kalgin Island, sightings were infrequent (18 in 27 yr), especially prior to the 1990s. Beach cast beluga carcasses with teeth marks and missing flesh also provided evidence of killer whale predation." www.researchgate.net/publication/227512576_Killer_Whale_Predation_on_Belugas_in_Cook_Inlet_Alaska_Implications_for_a_Depleted_PopulationWhen we make a large group of people contribute to medical care of our poorest, we diminish the ability of those with the lowest incomes in the large group to provide medical care for themselves. We in effect pick winners and losers. When we start protecting some species, we make other species losers. Certainly our ever increasing presence on the planet presents a threat to all species, including ourselves.

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Two environmental groups gave formal notice Friday that they will sue to protect endangered Alaska beluga whales from problems caused by oil and gas operations." Over time I have read of organizations like PETA, SPCA, and other like organizations bragging about the hundreds of millions of dollars they have in war chests for legal expenses against fill in the blank, in there minds on behalf of fill in the blank animal.... Not money for research or other benefit to animals, but law suits against fill in the blank.. To me, that makes them just as destructive to animals as a poacher, or other doing deliberate damage. My 5 cents of opinion..
