My daddy used to catch those HUGE suckers in nets - and then drive them up the state to sell them. Made a good living doing that for awhile.

It was a fish company, if I recall correctly. They sold them to places that sold it for eating.

I've never seen alligator gar on a menu. Of course I don't eat at fancy places (with fancy prices).
I have seen 'fried fish' and just that fairly often. I've always assumed that the words 'fried fish' meant catfish.

You have never had Gar balls or patties?
1 bell pepper, garlic, chopped. 3 lbs boiled Gar fish meat, salt and pepper to taste. Form into balls or patties. Roll in equal amounts flour and yellow cornmeal, seasoned with equal amounts of black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika to taste. Fry in oil. Dip in favorite dip. MMM MMMMM. Grandma talked about gar, none here, she used suckers or other "trash fish". I use perch....James

How does one acquire gar oil? And wouldn't it be better to just leave the buffalo gnats in Arkansas?
