Rustaholic, we used the 4x4 and chain method to get them all out - I can't imagine doing it any other way! We had about 20 that came out, and then piled them all up on the driveway. Today I worked over my 30'x15' bed right up against my house. I turned over all the soil with a shovel, broke up the dirt clods with a hoe, then smoothed it out with a rake (unfortunately, I don't own a rototiller - what took me 3 hours could have been done in 45 minutes). Then I raked in a bunch of fine mulch / compost, and then planted about 120 new bushes, perennials, and annuals. In total, it took me 8 hours to do all that, and I am feeling it again now! Such an awesome sense of accomplishment, though! Tomorrow my plan involves a lot of resting on the couch!
