I'm not necessarily good at it, but I have made a bunch of kitchen table needle work and other crafts.. Winters are long...
Now I see a number of patterns for homemade cloth face masks.. Maybe not as good as other alternatives, but better than nothing with some products being unavailable, short supply, expensive..
And of course there are many other things.. Cutting, hemming an old bed sheet into bathroom use reusable cloths.. Using cloth bandanna for table napkins, you name the application... The key is reusable, can be homemade, and cheap... You get the idea..
I have printed off a couple patterns for my "Homestead" note book..
Anyone with patterns, ideas, you name it ?? ??
Separate thread for "formulas".....

That's great that you have these winter crafts. Our winters are so long, but not as long as yours.
I have a good friend and she is cutting the sewing the masks for hospitals, even though they aren't the best medical equipment. She says that once she cuts lots of them, it takes about 15 minutes to sew each mask.
I don't have a pattern for you, but I applaud your efforts with needle craft. Great idea for a thread. Thanks Tim.

My niece has a doctorate in nursing ( yes- - in nursing). She is in charge of something the cancer ward. They are wearing the same mask all day. So, my sister, who is an avid quilter, has made her a half dozen face masks. She will be making more. They are washable and safe in the dryer.
Joanne fabrics has a pattern for face masks and will let you drive up to get a kit. However, our local Joanne's are not doing this. If you are interested, I am sure you could make masks for health care workers and it would be much appreciated.

I've been following this plea for people to sew masks. It's interesting to me because our niece who is working on her doctorate in nursing with a specialty in epidemiology came out and shared a study that concluded cloth face masks should not be used. I really don't know what to believe. Conclusions This study is the first RCT of cloth masks, and the results caution against the use of cloth masks. This is an important finding to inform occupational health and safety. Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Further research is needed to inform the widespread use of cloth masks globally. However, as a precautionary measure, cloth masks should not be recommended for HCWs, particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated.link to the NIH study

Given the choice of no mask or cloth masks, my pick would be the cloth. If they have a limited number of n95 masks, medical staff is covering them with the cloth masks so they last longer. Maybe not the best for patients but does help the staff.
