Richter's is sold out of the things I want and I've had less than stellar results ordering from Growers' Exchange. Can anybody make a recommendation please?

Are you particularly look for plants or seeds. I've used www.prairiemoon.com/and Stark brothers. Rare Seeds/Baker's Creek. Prairie Moon goes out and digs the plants after you order them, if they have them. Stark brothers sends us bare root fruit trees. Bakers Creek has some especially interesting seeds.

I'll check on Prairie Moon.
I've never had much luck with Stark Bros. I'm looking for culinary and medicinal HERB PLANTS, not seeds.
Thanks.

You can try Nichol's Garden Nursery in Oregon. I don't know their status right now, but I always have gotten very nice plants from them. They have scaled down in recent years so they may not have what you are looking for if it is very uncommon.

Maybe they have discontinued mail order plants. I haven't ordered plants from them in several years. I started ordering from them in the 1960's and they have always been a great source for herbs and all kinds of interesting things. The first time I ordered plants from them the plants came looking so fresh except for one. It didn't live and I sent them a note (it was well before email) and they immediately sent me another plant that was perfect.
I still order seeds from them and always have good results and the customer service is excellent.

mogal, what is the particular herb plant you are looking for? It's possible that one of us here has that herb. Someone might be willing to share. Or if you have a list of them you are looking for then we could look for them.

Primarily bay laurel, lemon verbena and winter savory. The big box stores, local hardware stores, etc., may have more later but right now, it's mostly annuals for which they charge perennial prices. Those I start from seed myself as I'm a bit on the cheap-uh, frugal-side.

What is bay laurel? Isn't that a bush? Is that the bay leaves in the spice cabinet?

Exactly the same. The flavor difference between fresh and store bought is not to be believed. They can become big trees or pruned to shrub size. In my area, they have to be kept in pots unless you happen to have a heated greenhouse. I don't but I've had good luck with them indoors over the winter.

Companion Plants out of Ohio might be worth a look. I ordered from them last year with good luck.

Well, I ordered 4-26 and got an email saying shipment would be 5-4 or 5-11, most likely the latter since they'd had so many orders. So far, no notification of shipment but I'll post when they do then the quality/health of plants upon arrival. My concern is that we will "turn the corner" into quite warm weather as of this weekend and it probably won't be safe to ship even by priority mail next Monday, 5-18.

Redfish2, Companion Plants "did themselves proud." Thanks for the recommendation.
Companion Plants never sent any tracking info but the plants were shipped Tuesday 5-12 and arrived this morning in very good condition. CP sent good info re: caring for them. A note was included saying that the packing material was recycled and all collected in their community, asking that the recipient find "further uses" for the packing. One clever thing was a cardboard egg carton! We can recycle paper or I can shred everything and use it as bedding in my worm bins.
Anyway, nice plants, good health documentation, timely arrival so I'll be ordering again if I can't find what I want locally.
