Got the census here today. DS says we got one at home yesterday. Which one do we fill out, just asked who was at this address on April 1. What if I had gone on line and done it before we left home March 1. But I was here April 1. April fools. Guess I will fill out here and DS there. But that is our home, and we would have been there. Just wonder how many have this and what a mess. A lot of our northern snow bird friends still in Arizona and California. Many are Canadians. Did they get a census card at that address? Our mailed card, to do it on-line, in February had no address, just resident....James

Got to thinking, I wonder if we got the on-line census card here. Looked in the kindling box-Yep there it was. No address just resident. I guess when you go on-line they ask you the address. The real census letter says
resident xxxx xxxxxxxx RD City state zip
I think I will wait and see who shows up to explain. Think it would be interesting if we were here and then they showed up there after we get there. Should I tell them I already did it or do both and let them figure it out? Will they ever get around? 2 different counties. Oh yea, I have never filled out a census, no one ever came around that I know of. Of course everywhere we have lived had a tall locked gate. I have checked census records before and we don't show up. This is the first one for my kids. I have said my piece about it. They can do as they please. name, Mr xxx xxxx and Mrs xxxx xxxx, American. Come and get it....James

They'll cross reference you. Same as the interstate voter registration cross check. Neither is perfect. But it could result in you being counted where you don't want to be or removed from the voting rolls (depending on state of course).

And the form does ask about living elsewhere so filling out both could be deemed fraud.

I originally wasn't going to fill out the census because then snoozy would have to visit me, which socially would have been nice. What isn't nice about a snoozy visit, if you just read her blog you'd want to have dinner with her or maybe tea. But ultimately, when it came right down to it, I didn't want strangers coming up to my door interrogating me about my life here, WHO IS MR FEATHER AND WHO ELSE LIVES HERE so I filled it out online. It would feel just icky if they asked me how many toilets I had or what color the porcelain was. Or they'd say something like how many cats do you harbor or what kind of toothpaste we might use. I take offense at sharing what kind of toothpaste I use. After I filled it out I got a threatening letter that said I better fill it out online or there were some legal ramifications. I'm pretty sure that letter was mailed before they realized how compliant I was. I'm still kind of sad that snoozy and I didn't sit down to tea or dinner.

We have 3 other residences during different parts of the year and different years. Luckily 2 don't have addresses and our new cottage in town has never had mail delivery, just a street address. Just happens we were here at the beach cottage on April 1. What if we had been in the RV?

@jwal10, I don't know but if you had been in the RV, the RV would be licensed to one address, just in order to register or license it. That would be my best guess. The census people can't exactly take your itinerary to a trip you are taking, to follow you around to ask you questions. There is no CSI census scene investigation department or a budget to track down RV'ers, so your probably safe from that.

Jwal, where are you registered to vote? What do you consider your permanent address? That's where you should be counted. Just do it online. Or if you have already done it via mail in, you're done. Census people are not coming around at this time.
