One of the first things I'll run out of is, oddly-enough, deterg for the dishwasher. I'm running mine a little more often since I just can't leave the plates that held cat food on the floor Anyone have a good substitute or recipe?

I use dishwasher PODS in my machine ……
So many items come out with a thin coating of a while coating ……. Particularly plastic utensils and metal pans, cookie sheets, etc.
Never had that problem with the 20 year old machine that died a few months ago .
New machine leaves the scummy coating.
What’s the solution to my conundrum?

Less detergent and a vinegar rinse in the rinse agent receptacle might work.

With just you and the cats, do you even need to use the dishwasher most days? With just 2 of us (and 4 cats, 1 dog), I hand wash as I go, and my dishwasher is just used as a drying rack. On days when you do a lot of cooking or prepping food for the freezer, etc, go ahead and use the dishwasher, but for just a few dishes, a quick hand wash before the food has a chance to dry on is easy and quick (and dish liquid is generally less expensive than dishwasher detergent).
