Friday night we got a call from Army Son. There was a bee swarm by his pond. He called to see if the Hubs wanted to try to come and get it. It was nearly dusk so time was of the essence. Of course Hubs wanted to give it a try. We lost both of our swarms during a warm snap in January. They packed their bags and left. We rushed to pack up the beekeeping supplies and off he went. Army Son has a run off culvert from his pond, and of course the swarm was on the tree that hung over the culvert. Hubs was about to get wet! Hubs has been waiting for this moment...we even have a swarm trap out on the barn. Hubs has been watching videos on catching swarms all winter - ever since ours left. We ordered one replacement (they are expensive) and he was determined to be able to catch a swarm....or two....or three....to replace the ones that left. He was like a boxer going in to a fight. He has been training for this all winter. So, into the water he went. He and Army Son were able to capture the swarm with very little effort. He was tickled - so tickled, in fact, that Puddin Pop video chatted her Nana to tell her that Papa Joe was on his way home with HER bees and was excited. She abruptly ended the call and I waited for him to get home.

It's an awesome feeling gathering up a swarm. Have you put your husband's name out there as swarm catcher? For example, give name & phone number to county extension office, fire dept, police dept, library, animal control, etc - places people are likely to call when they see a swarm.

That's awesome!
What did you do different to catch one this time?
I tried for 3 years with no success then tried using a frame of old-nasty comb in my traps. I caught 2 in the same spot back-to-back almost immediately after making that switch.

A lot of family and friends out here know to call him. He's not up for cut-outs, etc.

This was hanging on a tree over a culvert for my son's pond run off. Son called. Hubs went. They were able to knock it down with little effort. Hubs did get a little wet, though. LOL
